Notes on prices
Prices shown are per apartment per night. We provide you with a welcome pack of tea, coffee, bread, milk, bottled water and a bottle of Tuscan wine to get you started and to welcome you to Casa Dei Gelsi.
Discounts for long lets especially mid and low season.
Minimum of 7 nights preferred in High season.
Extra beds (for children under 12yrs) 10 euros supplement. Change over days normally Saturday but we can be flexible.

Changeover day
Normally Saturday but can be flexible. Bookings of minimum of 7 days prefered in high season. Check in 5pm. If guests arrive before and the apartment is not ready they are welcome to leave suitcases with us. Check out 10am.

Il Girasole (1 Bedrooms, Sleeps 2/4)

Girasole (Sunflower). This apartment is ideal for a family of 2 adults and 1 to 2 children under 12 years. Ground floor – dining area with kitchen, a double bedroom and a shower room. First floor – spiral staircase leading to a gallery with small double bedroom.

Il Forno (2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4/5)

Il Forno (The Wood Oven). This apartment was the original 'farmer’s' kitchen, the original wood oven is still present. Ideal for a family of 4-5 persons (put up bed for child under 12 years). Ground floor – dining/living area with kitchen, staircase leading to first floor. First floor - two bedrooms and one shower room. Double bedroom with four poster bed (space for an additional bed available). Twin bedroom.

Il Frantoio (2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4/5)

Il Frantoio (The Olive Oil Press). This part of the house was originally used to press the olives from the land to make extra virgin olive oil. Ideal for a family of 4- 5 persons (put up bed for child under 12 years). It has now been carefully restored to preserve the original feel. Ground floor - dining/Living area with corner kitchen and shower room. One double and one twin bedroom with the space for an additional bed/cot if required.

Rosa Cannina (2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4)

Rosa Canina (Wild Rose). This first floor apartment is ideal for 2 couples or family of 4 persons on the first floor. First floor - dining/living area with kitchen, one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and a shower room. This apartment has 3 south and 2 north facing windows.

Notes on accommodation
Each apartment has a TV, wireless internet, are furnished and fully equipped, bedlinen and towels are provided and changed weekly. More frequently if requested.
All kitchens have marble or tiled based work tops, fridge with small freezer, microwave and gas hob. Each shower room is tastefully furnished with marble flooring, toilet, bidet and spacious showers.
All apartments have shaded private terraces, perfect for eating alfresco.
Il Porcile (The original Pigsty) has been restored and transformed into a communal Laundry area available for all guests. We have full central heating. Air-conditioning is not required as the stone walls keep the apartments cool, however fans are provided.

Accessibility
Our ground floor apartments could be suitable for guests with mobility problems, however contact owner for details.

Outside
The guests have the use of the private swimming pool with sun loungers and chairs (pool area 14x7metres) The pool and its large surrounding garden is fenced, with a gate that cannot be opened by a small child. Gardens with herbs outside each apartment. The vast mature gardens consist of flowers, shrubs, a variety roses, herbs, lawns and pergolas. You can find secluded private places to read sit and contemplate, a picnic can be organised in the olive groves that surround the property. Games room with books,games, ping pong table,Paolo and I are in the process of organizing more play areas around the property.

Coast/Beach
1hr 30 mins Versilglia. 2h Cinqueterre in Liguria.

Golf
Golf dell'Ugolino - 25 mins by car through the Chianti route.

Special interest holidays
Cookery course can be organized. By prior arrangement painting holiday for min 8 persons. Paolo, my husband, being a native and an experienced photographer can take you on a Photo safari!

Travel
Distance from the airport to Figline Valdarno: Florence 48km. Pisa 130km, Rome 256km. Use of car recommended but many guests have stayed without.

Distances
The house is located in a beautiful part of Tuscany bordering the famous Chianti area and just a few miles from the main highway from Milan to Rome. We are located in a central position making it a convenient base. Figline Valdarno (3km) Florence (25km), Siena (50km), Arezzo (54km), Volterra (98km), San Gimignano (75km), Castellina in Chianti (38km), Certaldo (65km) and many other beautiful medieval Tuscan villages. Roma, Arezzo and Florence frequent direct trains.

Further details
Supermarket 5 mins drive, offers many local produce, excellent meat and fresh fish. Lively working medieval walled town of Figline Valdarno just a 5 min drive offers weekly open markets, frequent weekend "fiesta's" organised by the locals. In Figline you will find all amenities, shops, boutiques, restaurant and bars, banks and pharmacies. 20 mins drive to nearest outlet " The Mall".

Booking notes
A non-returnable deposit of 20% is payable at the time of booking. Our cancellation policy is:
Booking to 60 days from arrival date : 20%.
From 60 days to 31 days from arrival date :50%.
From 30 days to 8 days from arrival date : 75%.
From 7 days to 1 day from arrival date : 100%.
The total or remaining amount can be paid on arrival by cash or by bank transfer prior to arrival.

Well we’re back in the UK now after spending those two glorious weeks at I Gelsi – thank you so much for your warm hospitality and efforts. We felt very welcome and as our fourth time staying with you, it felt like home from home but with Sun, Great food and wonderful wine. Ellie misses Tommy and Matti, and of course the pool.

We made sure that we left a few more fantastic places (Cortona was as lovely as Paolo said it was) in Tuscany to visit when we come again next year. And the vineyard tour is top of the list. Those wines won’t taste themselves you know.

I would (and will) recommend I Gelsi to all as long as I can get booked in next year.

Owner profile

About the owner
Enza is an Italian born midwife who returned to Florence from the United Kingdom in the late 1980s. Her husband Paolo is a Florentine photographer and together they live in one wing of the main house with their two children enjoying a traditional Italian family lifestyle. During Summer Enza takes advantage of the home grown produce to create preserves and sauces and of course, in Autumn, everyone helps with producing Olive Oil from the groves surrounding their house.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
In 1998 Paolo and Enza Carlini fell in love with a large farmhouse set on 14 acres of land, in a beautiful position above the 13th century town of Figline Valdarno with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside. They slowly and carefully restored the house preserving the original character and charm, deciding to name the property after the numerous Mulberry trees that surround the house. The grounds offer privacy and plenty of opportunity to experience the atmosphere of the italian countryside with enjoyable walks through fields and wooded copse. However you are still only 10 minutes from the centre of Figline, and it's charming Piazza, modern amenities and frequent rail service to both Florence and Rome.

Unique benefits of the property
Though peaceful and rural, I Gelsi is within easy reach of many of the Medieval towns and cities of Tuscany and makes a superb base for touring this wonderful region. I Gelsi boasts a large infinity pool which is positioned so that the wonderful view of the surrounding countryside can be enjoyed in sunshine from early in the morning to sunset. A substantial brick built, rustic barbecue, located away from the apartments to prevent smoke nuisance, is available for everyone to use and perhaps try out "Bistecca alla Fiorentina".
