About the owner
About us: Margaret is a trained junior primary school teacher and has lived in Italy for the last 15 years and moved to Cortona with her husband Maurizio and two boys, Thomas 8 and Elliott 6 four years ago. When not playing mum, she is busy in the greenhouse or caring for the animals, or capturing memorable wedding photos for brides and grooms. Maurizio, Italian born and bred divides his time between Tuscany and Milan where he is a successful advertising photographer. Thomas is 8 years old and passionate about antique civilizations. He goes to the primary school in Cortona with his little brother Elliott who is 6 years old and a ball of pure energy! We are all completely bilingual in Italian and English.

Year purchased: 2005

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Welcome to our home. Having become tired of the city and smog filled air of Milan we began searching for a better way of life for our children and ourselves 5 years ago. We stumbled on this property and instantly fell in love with it! The property probably dates back to the 1200s with the newest part being built in the early 1800s. The house would originally have been built by the farm workers who were under the power of the land owner who lived next door (evident by the tower on our neighbours house). We have been told that our home housed 30 people in the early 1920s as well as a barn under the house for the animals. The land was let completely go after the second world war when many farms in Italy were abandoned for the lure of easy work in the cities.

Unique benefits of the property
Our little farm offers a respite from the bustling Tuscan towns that surround us. The benefits of being at 650m above sea level means that the nights are always cool, no matter how hot the days are. Our 24/7 presence means that we are always on hand for advice about what to see and where to go and "how to say in Italian" as well as for any questions or problems that you may have.
