Its cathedral and the unusual square in the town centre are famous together with the palaces dating back to 1225 when the town became a city state. The town -about 1300 feet above sea level- has beautiful surroundings with a view towards the sea.

The apartment has a little balcony partly incorporated in an old town wall - overlooking roofs of the medieval town.
Coast/Beach
The region - called Maremma - is the coastal area of beautiful rural South Tuscany. From the apartment to the beach is a 20 minutes drive.
Golf
There are golf courses in Scarlino/Pelagone (20 minutes drive) and in Punta Ala (40 minutes drive).
Travel
The town is an ideal base for exploring:
-Firenze, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, Siena and Volterra
-the Isle of Elba and
-Etruscan sights of the region as well as nature reserves
-in August Open Air Opera and concerts.

Pisa airport is 120 Km to Massa Marittima (one and a half hour drive).
