Italian language lessons. The Italian language lessons are informal, friendly and tailored to your needs, tastes, language level, and schedule. Your teacher is a native speaker and she will negotiate all aspects of the course with you. Usually, beginners having lessons for 1 week will learn: greetings, basic exchanges, interacting at the bar and at the restaurant, shopping for food and for clothes. Lesson fees: assuming 5 people having 2 hour lessons for 5 days (10 hours in total): 50 euros each. Cookery lessons. For the cookery lessons, Maria will be your personal Abruzzese cooking teacher, for a 'hands on' experience. Using seasonal, locally produced ingredients (including organic produce from the land around the house, hand picked by you) you are bound to have fun making regional specialities such as 'spaghetti alla chitarra', 'pizza con patate', 'frittata', etc. Fees to be negotiated depending on the number of sessions and the food requested.

If you literally just want to get to the villa and stay there, you can get a taxi from the airport or the the station.

Email from the Middleton's - guests August 2008.
'Virna, just a quick note to send some pictures and thank you and your family from all of us for a fabulous holiday. The house, location and region were wonderful and a real treat for us; made all the better by Valeria's help and advice (and patience in teaching me!) and your Mum's cooking and Dad's home-grown food. Please thank them for being so welcoming and hospitable.'

Email from Ava's group - guests September 2008.
'Dear Virna, I just wanted to say thank you for such a lovely holiday! We had a wonderful time. The house is beautiful, and the views too! We spent a lot of time relaxing at the house but did quite a lot of trips too - Penne, Scanno, Spoltore, Chieti, the beaches at Pineto and near Ortona, and up to the mountain towns.
We enjoyed the Italian lessons, Valeria is a great teacher (and tour guide). We had great fun making pizza, and a really funny hour or two's conversation with your parents, they were very patient.'

Owner profile

Myself next to an olive tree

About the owner
I was born and grew up in Penne, the next small town from Loreto. I used to spend most of my holidays in Loreto, playing with my cousins around the olive grove and the fruit trees. I loved picking the cherries straight from the trees, in those warm early summer afternoons. We usually ate too many of course. I moved to London in 1997 to complete my degree in foreign languages and literature. I then started teaching foreign languages and so 'settled' in the UK. I currently teach in a London university. My family still lives in Loreto so I visit very regularly and every time I fall in love with the location of the house and the olive grove, so peaceful, so unpolluted.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
I inherited the olive grove in Loreto from my dad. This is the 3rd generation that we produce high quality, now certified organic, olive oil. The idea of building a log house came from the desire of having a natural building sitting in the middle of the olive grove, rather than a brick or concrete one. For the same reason I installed photovoltaic panels on the roof of the villa, to provide clean energy for daily needs. The location is great: you are in the countryside, but only minutes away from the town or about 30 minutes drive from the coast and the big city.

Unique benefits of the property
A stay in the villa is relaxing, ideal for families or anyone wishing to switch off from their hectic lifestyle. I love going there myself and it feels so good to be in a log building, surrounded by evergreen olive trees, with the mountain views all around. There are many holiday resorts now in Abruzzo, but this is unique in that it is made of wood, it is new and finished to very high standard. You are even free to walk around the grove and the organic vegetable garden. You can pick any fruit from the trees around the property and that may well be the best fruit you have ever tasted!
