The villa is immersed in an old Sicilian garden with olive and lemon trees, hybiscus and bouganville in the area of Bagheria-Santa Flavia where the aristocracy used to spend their holidays in magnificent Baroque villas, some of them being now open to the public, such as Villa Palagonia better known as 'mansion of monsters', visited by 18th century famous travellers ,such as Goethe and others. The Cottages are surrounded by an historic Mediterranean garden with pistachio, pittosporum, and rosemary. Each one is independent and has its own garden and facilities. There are table and chairs and barbecue. The swimming pool is located in a secluded garden, near a gazebo and a bouganville arch. It can be reached crossing the court in front of the main villa.To share with the owners.Open from May to October.In November the mild temperature is perfect to enjoy the quiet and empty beaches and to walk in the Nature reserves.Autumn in Sicily:a perfect getaway among culture and nature.

The cottage is one of a pair set within the ancient outer stone wall of the Castello San Marco.The thick walls and 4 m. high vaulted ceilings allow cool air to circulate throughout the 100 square metres of comfortable accomodation offered.Each cottage has its own terrace and private Sicilian garden. Bedroom 1 (20 sq. m. , vaulted ceiling 4 m. high) : double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, air conditioning. Suite bathroom with bath.Baby cot. Bedroom 2 : twin beds, chest of drawers, coat rack. Cottages:each cottage has its own terrace and private sicilian garden about 500 mq., barbecue, table, chairs, deckchairs.
The swimming pool (14 x 7m, max.depth 3m) is located in a secluded garden of about 800sq.m near a large shaded area under the trees with tables and chairs. Deckchairs around the pool. It can be reached crossing the court in front of the main villa.To share with the owners.Open from May to October.In September-October the average temperature is between 22 and 18 degrees.This allows to enjoy the sun on the beach that in this period is quiet and empty or to go around visiting the nice villages in the Madonie Park,the archaeological sites or walking in the Nature reserves of Monte Catalfano,Bosco di Ficuzza,lo Zingaro. In this period you can find at the fish market the Capone fish or the young Tuna fish to cook on your barbecue or Sardines to cook with pasta and if you are too busy to cook we can do it for you.
Coast/Beach
3 km to the beach. You can find public access to the sea in the area of Capo Zafferano and the delicious little village of Sant'Elia.In the private beaches you can find facilities (deckchairs,beach umbrellas,shower,stall for drinks and snacks)and they are clean and well kept.
Golf
The nearest Golf Course is located 40 km. far, near the Motorway. It's the Madonie Golf Club, open all year round, 18 holes, mt.6004, Par 72. Practise field, pitching green, putting green. Altitude m.74 above sea level.

We'll be happy to show you the historical Sicilian garden with its luxurious Mediterranean and tropical vegetation, the rocky garden with cacti and succulent from the surprising shapes and flowerings and some of the service rooms of the Villa, such as the chapel, the stables and the family coaches, the old kitchen and cook for you the family dishes from traditional Sicilian cookery, using fresh vegetables growing in our garden. We can arrange for you a half board.You'll have the opportunity to try our family wine produced in our farm near Corleone. We can prepare for you the gorgeous "Pasticcio di maccheroni "that was served at the table of Prince Salina. (the Leopard) and let you taste it in a special Christmas Dinner in the dining-room of the castle.You can also admire the 17th century crib that we set in the Hall.

Nearest airport: Palermo Falcone Borsellino. 40 min. by car. Nearest port: Palermo 25 min. by car. Use of car is recommended,though not essential:shops and pizzerias are 500 m. far and the railway station is 15 min. far. If you don't like driving, we can provide a car with a driver that will take you from the airport.

Pizzerias, typical Sicilian restaurants and fish restaurants can be found in Santa Flavia, Bagheria, Porticello. In Santa Flavia can be found shops, markets and a chemistry. Autumn gives you the opportunity to walk in the nature reserves all in flower, visiting charming stone villages in the Madonie Park. At home we prepare the gorgeous 'Pasticcio di maccheroni', the famous dish that was served at the table of Principe di Salina (the Leopard) and the Prince himself used to cut for the pleasure of his guests that could smell its fragrance, before tasting it. You can taste the pie in a special dinner in the dining room of the Castello,the same where Tomasi di Lampedusa used to have his meals with the family during the war. We suggest you to see the BBC programme 'Carluccio and the Leopard' available on DVD that was shot in the kitchen of our villa. Yuo can taste directly in your cottage some of the dishes from our Autumn Menu and ask daily the eggs from our hens for your children.
In the main street of Bagheria (a pedestrian street) you can still find the barber shop,the bar,the butcher and fish shops where the men used to meet and discuss and still they do. In the nice little village of Ficuzza you can visit the palace where the Bourbon kings used to live during the hunting period and start a walk in the wood or climb up on the Rocca Busambra, not far from Piana degli Albanesi,a village that is famous for the rich dresses and jewels still worn by the women during the sumptuous ceremonies in the Easter period.
In Christmas time,you can admire the outstanding family"presepio" (crib) that we prepare in the hall of the castle setting in a landscape of stones,green bushes and moss the eighteenth century shepherds all in wood and papier machι,some of them wearing silk dresses richly embroidered.

An advance of 1/3 is due for reservation. The balance is to be paid cash on arrival. A deposit of 300 euros cash is due on arrival. Final cleaning 50 euros.

About the owner
We live in a XVII century manor house with three children and three dogs. Each of us is involved in the family activities producing grapes, cereals, olives, making wine and olive oil,although taking care of the garden is definitely our favourite.
Why the owner chose a home in this location
The manor has been built for an ancestor of the family and several generations have been living here, each one leaving a sign of its passage. Palermitan aristocrats used to spend their holidays in Bagheria area in splendid villas surrounded by magnificent gardens. Here you can enjoy the local perfumes, flavours, atmosphere, in one word you'll find yourself immersed in the indigenous culture. If you like relaxing in peace you can enjoy the swimming-pool and the chirping cicadas in the garden.
If you prefer laying near the seaside you can go to Sant'Elia,a nice,peaceful village and its charming little beach or to Cefalù and its large sand beaches and turquoise sea.

The weather between November and March is often clement and sunny and the garden enjoyable even in Winter when almond trees and hibiscus are in flower and orange trees are full of 'golden apples', so were called oranges in the mythological Hesperides Garden. Anyway there is a good heating system and plenty of indoor space, just in case.
