Farmhouse Bramasole (since 1760) is on a hilltop 1km away from the medieval village of Montopoli (150m asl), halfway between Florence 40' by car/ train, Pisa 30, Lucca 40', San Gimignano 35', Volterra 50', Siena 70’ and Tirrenia 35’. An 11x5x1.40m panoramic pool is available in the park of olive trees, a vinery and cypresses with its haylofts and the bicentennial oven. There's a big garden (6000sqm) with BBQs, tables and a small toy-park for children. Two donkeys, two sheeps, 3 goats and other jolly animals live in the property as well. On our 10 hectare hilly property we produce extra virgin olive-oil, honey and saffron. There's a naturalistic itinerary with signs for the main trees and flowers you meet in the property. A group of 6 Etruscan tombs are on the path as well. We live in the same house since 1978 and have a professional knowledge of Tuscan art and history. For our guests, we frequently prepare tours to the most unusual corners of Tuscany. A presto!

All rooms of the apartment La Quercia are suitable for wheelchairs users. Doors are large, no steps between the rooms, specific tools are in the bathrooms. No steps or other barriers are in the garden and by the pool as well.

Outside
In the wide garden surrounding the house, that is about 6000sqm, you have three gazebos with tables and chairs, a barbecue, a small toy-park for children. Animal lovers are welcomed here, since our dog Susy, our five cats and specially our funny rooster Johnny are free in the garden. Umbrellas and comfortable chairs surround the pool, which is 50 mt. far from the house and completely surrounded by a net and a little gate, for children safety. Over the pool, in a large and closed field are the two donkeys Beppino and Giuditta, the sheeps Alice and Camilla, the goats Ringo, Giorgina and their little baby (born on October 2008).

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is 30km from here, which is reachable in 30 minutes by car thanks to the motorway which connects Florence to Pisa and Livorno. Viareggio and the area of Versilia is 40 minutes far. In 1 hour and 20 minutes you can drive to Piombino (ferry to Elba Island).

Golf
The golf club Fontevivo, in the village of San Miniato, is just 15 minutes far from our house. Nine holes with restaurant, tennis courts etc.

Special interest holidays
I am a teacher in art-history, therefore we frequently provide lessons for our guests to introduce Tuscany, its art, its folklore, its history. I wrote a book about unusual itineraries throughout Tuscany (both in Italian and English) and I can help with museums, fascinating beaches and hilly villages.

Travel
The nearest airports (both Pisa and Florence) are 30/40 minutes far from our house. Car is not necessary to reach our house since the trains from both Florence and Pisa stop in the station of Montopoli (3 km far from here) but it is strongly recommended if you wish to move throughout Tuscany, since 90% of main villages and some of the most important towns, like Siena, San Gimignagno, Volterra are on a hilltop, not easy to reach by train or bus.

Distances
As also noted by the many guests we've been accommodating in our house for almost 14 years, this is a perfect starting point for daytrips throughout Tuscany. In less or about one hour drive, you may reach: Pisa and Florence, Lucca, Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Vinci (the village where Leonardo da Vinci was born), Viareggio, Arezzo, Carrara (for a visit to the white-marble caves), Populonia, and so on.

Further details
As said, the medieval village Montopoli in Val d'Arno (XIth cent., about 1500 inhabitants) is situated on a hill (150 m) at the heart of Tuscany. In Montopoli you have two banks, a post office, three bars, shops, farmacy and so on. Supermarkets, rail station, shops and services are at about 3 km away from our Agriturismo. Medieval villages all around (San Miniato, Vinci, Calci, Palaia, Montaione, etc.). We are 20 minutes far from the 'Prehistorical' Park of Peccioli (the only one in Italy, with 1:1 reproductions of many different kind of dinosaurs. We are 20 minutes far from the Wetland - Naturalistic Park of 'Padule di Fucecchio, and moreover, we are 40 minutes far from the Pinocchio Park in Collodi, which is visited by thousands of children every year. Many further destinations for a visit will be suggested directly when you're here.

Booking notes
For the booking, we kindly ask our guests a deposit fee for about 30% of the total amount. The final payment will be done at arrival. Furthermore, a caution fee for Euro 200 will be left at arrival and returned to the guests at departure. Small pets are allowed (always upon previous agreement). Internet access (4Mega band, wireless) with a reimburse for 20 euros per week.

Guest comments
‘I am partial to this place because I grew up there in the early 1950's. This B&B used to be the farm my mother lived in before she meet my dad during WW II. The Andreini family has renovated this place to perfection. We have stayed there twice now. Once in the lower apartment (Aug 2003) and once in the upper apartment (June 2005). We will be there again in August of 2008. If you are looking for a quiet get away in Tuscany then this is the place to stay. By the way, Rosetta Andreini is a great cook and their wine is delicious!’ Joseph Schiavone, from U.S

‘Very nice and very large apartment (La Quercia): great kitchen, two nice bedrooms, huge bathroom (well suited for handicapped persons), and a living room with a fireplace. We had a wonderful time and the owners accommodated our every wish. The best agriturismo farm we've been to so far’ Robert Kratky

Owner profile

About the owner
I'm a 37 y.o. teacher in art history, but for almost 15 years - since we started to rent our apartments as Agriturismo, I have been spending most of my time in the property. I have a deep knowledge of tuscan art and history: I often prepare guided visits to the most fascinating corners of our region. Since this is a familiar place, my family and I are used to stay in the farm for the whole day. After 15 years, we can say we have always had kind and pleasant families or groups from about everywhere in the world. It's nice to know about them, their countries and their culture. It's like traveling without moving. Many guests are coming again for a new stay; with other ones, we still phone or write each other after years. This is, after all, our greatest satisfaction.

Year purchased: 1970's

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
My parents bought the property 'Bramasole', on a hilltop halfway between Florence and Pisa, in the late Seventies, when everybody was moving from the farming areas to the new industrial ones. It was my father's ideal of a healthy lifestyle: together with my mother, he started to cultivate organic vegetables, fruits and extra virgin olive oil, and grow up little animals. In the early Nineties, we renovated the house. In 1996, we decided to start the Agriturismo (farmhouse for holidays) and to stop the renovations: the ancient hay-lofts, the 'pig-house', the wood-oven and the butter-cellar should remain as they looked like when we bought the hill-property, surrounded by olive trees, cypresses, mulberries, oaks, from a family of shepherds. That's how you also may enjoy it all today.

Unique benefits of the property
All apartments are definitely large (between 90 and 110 sqm, that is definitely unusual for the standard). Of course all apartments have all comforts. What you may also enjoy is the gardens: they are well tended with lots of different plants (lemon trees, oranges, olives, mulberries, cypresses, figs, pears, apples, rosemary, sage, thyme, prickly pears and so on) and different areas for the children to explore. Chickens, cats and a little funny dog run about and provide an extra dimension for adults and children. This area is also safe, there are no cars since the parking spaces are in the back of the house and the swimming pool is securely fenced off, about 20mt far from the house garden, that is also completely fenced off. We feel satisfied each time children cry when it's time to leave.
