Studio Apartment in Central Florence
In Oltrarno, Short walk from Ponte Vecchio
Sleeps 2/4 (Studio Apartment)

|
The flat is on the south side of the Arno very close to one of the most delightful of Florence squares, Piazza Santo Spirito and a stone’s throw away from Palazzo Pitti. The Ponte Vecchio is no more than 5 minutes walk away and from there all the main monuments and museums of Florence are within walking distance. It is located in a long narrow street and the quartiere is one of the few areas of the city still relatively unaffected by tourism. There are lots of local shops, cafes, restaurants, antique shops and a market in Piazza Santo Spirito every day as well as workshops of bookbinders, carpenters, furniture restorers, picture framers and jewellers. The living area (of about 40 square metres) is largely open-plan having been significantly modernised and restructured in 2000. Ceilings are about 3.5 metres high. It is centrally heated with an independent boiler above the bathroom.

Accessibility
The flat is reached by 2 flights of narrow stairs (no lift).
Outside
The front window of the flat looks out onto the street, and the rear window onto a small courtyard.
Travel
Best reached by flights to Pisa (or better still Florence) airport. Direct train or bus to Florence station from Pisa. We recommend those with luggage to take a taxi to the flat from the train station, though it is only 15 minutes or so walk from the railway and bus stations.
Distances
Not only is the flat a very short walk form the Ponte Vecchio but most monuments are within 10-15 minutes' walk. Buses run to and from stops near the flat (the most useful is No 11 which goes to the railway station) but we rarely use them.
Further details
We leave a detailed booklet of instructions in the flat. This also contains recommendations from us and previous guests about shops close by, local restaurants (of which there is no shortage) and things to see in the vicinity. Guide books and other reading material about Florence is kept a the flat along with other (lighter) reading. Internet access is currently provided via a USB dongle for use by visitors.

"Thank you very much for the rental of your lovely apartment. We were very comfortable. It's in an excellent location... I will not hesitate to recommend your apartment to friends and family."
"An excellent, comfortable and convenient base from which to explore this atmospheric city."
"All your tips on eating out did not go amiss - we ate well, enjoyed the local shops and market, using the lovely little kitchen to make simple suppers 'at home' when not eating out."
"Your library is excellent, but one I have stoically refused on many occasions otherwise I would have seen nothing of the city!"
Owner profile
About the owner
I live near London (UK) and am married with three teenage children. I teach French and Italian in an independent girls school in North London. I have many family connections with Florence and have visited it regularly throughout my life and try to go there as often as I can.
Year purchased: 2005
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
I bought the flat first of all to allow me to spend time in Florence, visiting family and friends. The central location was a particular attraction when purchasing it, especially the area around Santo Spirito, which has a character all its own. You can do all your shopping within a short walk of the flat while there is no shortage of good restaurants either!
Initially I did not intend to let the flat to others. The flat was therefore furnished and equipped very much with personal use in mind. But soon personal friends and colleagues showed interest in staying there. Since 2009 I have been advertising successfully on Owners Direct.
