Accessibility
Due to cobbled streets and steps up to the house, this property may not be suitable for people with mobility problems.

The bedrooms look out over the castle walls which may be unsuitable for families with very young children.

The characteristic narrow cobbled streets means access by car is limited, making the village a safe and pleasurable place to stroll around but also a bit difficult for people with mobility problems.

Outside
Pereta has a few seating areas in the village especially near the Watch Tower. It also has a lovely little park on the edge of the village that has a picnic table under an old oak tree (great place for a picnic in the hot summer months).

Coast/Beach
The Maremma coastline is just 20 minutes drive away, with its beautiful sandy beaches where you can enjoy water sports, relax and soak up the Tuscan sun or even hire bikes and cycle along the coast line through pine woods, keeping your eyes open for wild boar and deer!

Golf
There are a few golf courses in the area. The nearest one, Golf Club Maremello, is just 15km drive away down on the coast in Fonteblanda. There is also one in Porto Ercole and saturnia approx 30 minutes drive away.

Travel
Nearest airports, Pisa or Rome, are approx. 2 hours drive away. Car hire is essential. Albinia train station is only 15 minutes drive away where you can hop on a train to Rome for the day!

Distances
There are many interesting towns close by well worth a visit such as Pitigliano, Porto santo Stefano, Scansano, Magliano in Toscana, Sorano, Montiano, Montorgiali, Roccalbegna, Grosseto and many more. A little further a field are Siena and Pisa and the elegant cities of Rome and Florence are about 2 hours drive away or 1 hour by train. The Maremma national park is 25 mins drive and Saturnia's Hot Springs 30 mins drive. You can take a ferry ride from Porto Santo Stefano to Giglio Island.

Further details
The whole area boasts delicious traditional cuisine and fine wines like DOC Morellino di Scansano from the nearby town of Scansano, where you can sample wines and local specialities in one of the characteristic ‘enotecas’ (tasting shops) or just sit outside the cafe with a delicious Italian ice-cream and watch the world go by! The famous spa town of Saturnia, only 30minutes drive away, with its hot natural springs cascading into small rock pools, like mother natures Jacuzzi is a definite must especially in the winter! For the more energetic there is a horse riding stables down near the beach just 20 minutes drive away, where you can trek through olive groves in the Tuscan hills. If you want lively bars and an English breakfast on your holiday, this is definitely not the place for you! If you’re looking for culture, art, crafts, tradition, local cuisine, fine wines all in an area of stunning natural beauty, where the pace of life slows right down under the Tuscan sun… then you’ll definitely enjoy a holiday in this part of paradise!

Tuscany boasts a lovely climate. The best way to describe it is that it seems to have 'proper' seasons which all have something special to share with you... Warm sunny Spring days make a regular appearance from as early as March sending the area into full bloom with blossom on the trees and poppies by the roadside. The summers are hot and relaxing with inviting beaches and shaded pine forests. Autumn's sunny days are a kaleidoscope of colours, an array of aromas with bursting vines and olive groves awaiting harvest time. The winter months are colder, time to enjoy the quiet villages filled with the cosy aroma of wood burning on the open fires, wrap up warm for a stroll on the beach or soak away your worries in the nearby hot springs of Saturnia... Mother Nature's Jacuzzi!

Owner profile

Marco and I enjoying the Tuscan sunshine!

About the owner
To cut a long story short. I am a Yorkshire girl who fell in love with an Italian. We both fell in love with Tuscany, especially Pereta!

Year purchased: 2009

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We have spent many holidays in this area of Tuscany before we had children and after, and fell in love with Pereta the very first time we stepped under the arched entrance. I thought it was like a fairy tale village. We especially loved this part of the village...right in the heart of the old castle area where the watch tower is, so we were always keeping our eyes open for a property coming up for sale. Then finally it did. We loved it before we even went inside! We completely renovated it all keeping its Tuscan charm with the original wooden beams, tile floors and large fireplace. We are really pleased with the end result...It looks stunning. The characteristic mezzanine with the pool table is a real bonus and the jacuzzi bath and four poster bed just give it that special touch.

Unique benefits of the property
We love to eat out when we go to Pereta as Maria's restaurant serves the best and cheapest set menu ever with traditional local food to die for. We all enjoy going to the pizzeria with Franco's pizza's definitely the best in Italy and it has to be the most child friendly place ever! We love popping to the beach or Saturnia Springs, visiting Giglio island and have a few favorite ice cream palours in a few of the nearby villages. The views from the house are unique... The Tuscan hills from the bedrooms and the cobbled streets from the living room makes you feel like you have gone back in time! The house and the castle area where it is has such a special feeling especially when the church bells are ringing or the locals give you a wave... I could definitely live there!
