The cottage at Villa Nerola is in a quiet and tranquil position and open all year round. Together with the owners' house it is set in the countryside bordering the Cilento National Park and offers panoramic views of the sea across to the Amalfi coast. The cottage makes a perfect destination for honeymooning couples, anniversaries and birthday surprises. Holistic treatments are available to the guests in a treatment room in her house. Tailor made relaxation breaks are also available. We offer our guests the use of a small 4x4 car which includes collection to and from Naples airport. It is warm and cosy in the winter as it has a wood burning stove to keep the cottage warm. A great location from which to explore the many medieval hilltop villages, choice of sandy beaches and pretty coastal towns. The Greek temples at Paestum are only 20 mins away. Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mount Vesuvius are only 90 mins away. In the summer boats go from Agropoli to Capri and the Amalfi coast.

Notes on accommodation
The cottage oozes rustic charm. It has been sympathetically built and furnished to provide comfort and open plan living with a galleried bedroom overlooking the sitting room. The kitchen is fully equipped and modern as is the spacious shower room. From the patio you can enjoy the views and sunsets over the Amalfi coast and to feel a sense of being 'on top of the world'. The cottage is ideal for two people who enjoy country life and want to get away from it all and yet is close enough to find civilisation if you wish by a short car drive. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops in the villages and larger towns which are all within 5-20 mins away.
Accessibility
The cottage is accessed by a steep and winding private track of 350m from a tarmac lane and although the patio is level it is shingled. The private plunge pool is accessed via a few shingled steps. There are wooden stairs up to the bedroom. There are terracotta floor tiles which are handmade and therefore slightly uneven.
Outside
There is a garden to the front of the cottage with rockery, olive trees and shrubs. There is a further garden area to the side of the cottage with a table and chairs. There is also a plunge pool for the sole use of guests (from mid May). The patio is directly outside the sitting room and there is a covered pergola outside the kitchen both offering uninterrupted views of the sea and countryside. A barbecue is provided as are sunloungers, garden table and chairs. The above mentioned areas are private and secluded. There are herbs in the garden/pots which can be used for cooking with.
Coast/Beach
The closest beaches are in Agropoli which are 15 mins by car. The most picturesque (and therefore popular) is at Trentova close to Agropoli which is situated in a small bay. There is another small bay at the marina and a long stretch of sandy beach closer to town. In July and August boats run from Agropoli to the island of Capri, Amalfi coast, Acciaroli, Palinuro and Sapri. The pretty coastal town of Santa Maria di Castellabate is approx 20 mins in the car with several sandy beaches.
Golf
There is a golf course available approx 20/25 mins away.
Special interest holidays
Holistic therapies are available in a treatment room in the owners house carried out by Vanessa who is a UK qualified and experienced practitioner and member of the International Federation of Aromatherapists since 1997. The treatments offered are: aromatherapy massage treatments using pure essential oils, Indian head massage, reflexology and reiki healing (qualified to level II). A list and prices are available. A full confidential consultation is carried out before all treatments. Relaxation breaks are also available which includes 3 hours of treatments per person and 3 mornings of breakfasts delivered outside your door. This can be taken as a separate 3 day break or incorporated into a week/s holiday. Price available on request.
Travel
We offer the service to our guests of the use of a small 4x4 car which includes collection to and from Naples airport. This car helps make driving easier around the lanes and up our private track. The cottage rental is not dependent on taking up this offer but we would recommend it especially in the winter months. Naples international airport is 120km and takes approx 90 mins. Rome airport is approx 220km and takes 3 hours by car. The nearest mainline railway station is in Agropoli.
Distances
The hilltop village of Laureana Cilento is approx 2.5 km away with a small grocery shop, post office and restaurant/cafe, the village of San Martino is a couple of mins in the car where there is a pharmacy, 2 cafes, 2 grocery shops and hardware shop. The small town of Torchiara is 8km where there are several restaurants, wine bar, shops, bank, cafes and small supermarkets. The large town of Agropoli is 15 mins in the car. The famous Greek temples at Paestum are 20 mins.
Further details
There are many similar hilltop villages within a 10km radius offering all local amenities. The small medieval village of Rocca Cilento with its own castle (which can be viewed by appointment) is 5km away which is 600m above sea level offering stunning views of the countryside, lake and mountains. Other medieval villages include Castellabate (15km), Vatolla with it's museum/college of philosophy and many more. This area is famous for mozzarella made from farmed buffalo in Capaccio near Paestum where you can go on a guided tour of the factory and watch it being made and also sample the yoghurt, ice cream and cheese in the shop. There are many traditional coastal villages going further south from Agropoli: Santa Maria and San Marco di Castellabate, Ogliastro Marina, Case del Conte and Ernest Hemingway's favourite seaside resort at Acciaroli (30km). Further south to Palinuro and Sapri being the furthest point of the Cilento coast. Water sports are available along the coast which has been awarded the Blue Flag to denote clean and safe waters. Boats can be taken from Agropoli in July, August and mid September to Capri, the Amalfi coast and down to Palinuro and all year round from Salerno and Naples to the islands of Ischia and Procida. There is a grotto dell' Angelo at Pertosa. The largest monastery in southern Italy is at Padula. Further inland in the national park is the abandoned village of Roscigno Vecchia and surrounding beautiful countryside. Ancient churches and monasteries are in abundance in this area. Also on offer is pony trekking, private boat trips, quad biking, nature walks, snorkling, fishing trips and much much more.

I aim to reply within 48 hours so if you don't get a reply please try again in case the email didn't arrive. 50% of the cost will be required at the time of booking by way of deposit and the balance to be paid a 6 weeks before arrival. Deposits are non refundable unless we are able to rebook. The payments can be made direct into a UK bank account in pounds or into an Italian account in euros (for which an 8 euro charge is made for each payment made).
