Notes on accommodation
The apartment has full gas central heating for autumn and spring and air conditioning for the hot summer months. The lounge opens onto a south-facing terrace where you can 'catch the rays' all day long and enjoy a candle-lit supper under the stars. The rear terrace offers some shade and incorporates a utility area with a washing machine. The borgo includes a country club, opened in June, 2011, with free access to the bar and top notch restaurant and a fabulous twin-level infinity pool, available (as are most pools in Italy) at a daily charge.
Accessibility
There are a few steps leading down from the road to the ground floor apartment. The apartment and terraces are all on one level. There is ample free car parking adjacent to the apartment.
Outside
The private luxury resort of Torre de Monaldeschi has approx 50 holiday homes (completed in 2010) and is surrounded by the most magnificent scenery. Our ground floor apartment has terraces both north and south facing. There is a barbecue and dining for six persons. A large parasol and loungers are on the south facing terrace.
Coast/Beach
About one and a half hours drive west will bring you to the sea. Well worth visiting is the Argentario Promontory - almost an island joined to the mainland by a strip of land/road. Visit the enchanting towns/ports of St Sefano and Porto Ercole. Closer are the the large inland lakes of Trasimeno and Bolsena offering all types of water sports, fishing etc.
Golf
Golf courses are about one hours drive away.
Special interest holidays
There are many excursions and special interest opportunities available from cookery schools to cycling and walking tours etc.
Travel
Rome - two airports Ciampino (1 and a half hours drive) and Fiumicino (2 hours) - Perugia airport (an hour and a quarter) and Pisa airport (2 and a half hours) are all served by budget airlines. Torre de Monaldeschi resort is situated in the beautiful Umbrian countryside- a car is essential to get the best out of your holiday.
Distances
Nearest town is Ficulle (5kms) where you can buy all local produce.
Fabro (10 kms) and Orvieto (20kms) are larger towns with supermarkets and all facilities.
Tuscany is only a stone's throw away - visit Montepulciano (50 kms) and Siena (100 kms). One hour on the `rapido` train from Orvieto will get you to Rome or Florence - ideal for a day excursion.
Further details
There are countless charming medieval hilltop towns to explore in Umbria.
Assisi (world heritage site) with the famous basilica of St Francis is about an hour and a half's drive. During the year they are many local festivals - food, music etc. - which are an ideal way of getting involved with the local people and way of life.
Two world famous Jazz Festivals are held each year - in Perugia and Orvieto.
A famous music festival is held every summer in Spoleto.
