Casa Del Falco is a small working olive farm deep in magnificent Abruzzan countryside. Reached by 'white roads', it provides an authentic flavor of rural Abruzzo. It lies midway between the hill towns of Castiglione Messer Raimondo and Bisenti, both with beautiful medieval centres that have escaped 'gentrification', where excellent shops provide an abundance of fresh local food and wine. The area is well served for meals out by pizzerias, rosticcerias and agriturismo restaurants. Although little English is spoken, the people of Abruzzo provide visitors with the warmest of welcomes. Two deep, wooded ‘fossa’ (gullies) provide a haven for birds and, in May/June, fireflies. There are butterflies and lizards everywhere and wild flowers in profusion. Our fruit trees - peaches, figs, pomegranates and walnuts - can be freely picked in season. The historical centres of Penne and Atri are within half an hour's drive and in less than an hour, you can be on the coast or deep in the Apennines.

Bedrooms: Both bedrooms are spacious with high ceilings and are well equipped.
Bedroom 1 has a king size bed. Spectacular mountain views. Bedroom 2 equipped with twin beds and looks over the valley. A sofa bed provides sleeping space for a 5th person.
Bathrooms: The bathroom comprises shower, bidet, wash hand basin and WC. There is a washing machine available for guest use.
Kitchen: The small kitchen is well equipped with oven, hob, fridge/freezer and a good selection of utensils.
Living Rooms: Open plan living/dining area includes a sofa bed sleeping one person comfortably. There is a TV with satellite access to freeview channels and CD/DVD player. The dining area includes a large wood burning open fireplace which may be used by guests.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Towels and linen are supplied. Property is cleaned on a weekly basis. Rental includes towels and linen. Changeover day flexible.

 

Notes on accommodation
The house has gas-fired central heating. Children are welcome but there are areas where the land falls away steeply with no protective hedges or fencing.

Accessibility
There are 3 steps up into the house and one internal step into the main living quarters. There are also steps down to the patio garden area.

Outside
There is a patio garden which is still under development but provides a good spot to enjoy the spectacular views. Guests are also free to wander through our fields.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beaches are at Montesilvano or Silvi Marina, roughly 22 miles away.

Golf
Less than an hour from the 'Circolo golf d'Abruzzo' golf course. The San Donato Golf Course in Santi is also roughly the same distance away.

Skiing
Nearest ski resort is Prati di Tivo around 45 min by car. The resort has a chairlift, 5 ski-lifts and 9 ski runs and it is possible to do cross country skiing on two circuits and the heliski. There is also a recommended skiing school within the area. There are 17 ski resorts in total in the Abruzzan mountain range area allowing plenty of choice for skiers, snowboarders and cross-country skiers.

Travel
Nearest airport is Pescara, less than an hour's drive away. The town is serviced by Ryanair daily flights offering low price flights.

The house is a 3.5 hour drive from Rome Ciampino airport. The house can only be reached by car.

Distances
Bisenti and Castiglione MR are both within 5 miles / 15 mins drive. There are good historic centres at Atri 17 miles and Penne 15 miles. Castelli, where they have been making ceramics continuously since the middle ages is about 20 miles.

Further details
Both Bisenti and Castiglione have a range of local shops. Bisenti in particular has 2 excellent supermarkets and a wonderful chocolatiere. Both have banks, but only the one in Bisenti has an automatic cash machine. There are numerous pizzerias, rosticcerias and agrotourismo restaurants within a 5 mile radius, many in attractive country locations. Booking notes
Rental rates are £300 sterling per week or euro equivalent at time of booking. Stays of less than 1 week are also available upon request. The full amount must be received no later than 2 weeks prior to stay in accommodation. A deposit of £150 is also required, immediately returnable upon satisfactory inspection once property is vacated. Rental fees can be paid into either a UK or Italian bank account.
