La Casetta is located in the historic centre of Modica. In March 2003 UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has acknowledged that the city of Modica and its surrounding areas to be added to the world heritage list for the baroque treasures it holds in its historic buildings and architectural design unique only to this part of Sicily, Modica, built between two valleys and hills is known for its Baroque architecture, has restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and shops. Modica is also called the Positano of Sicily. The town of Modica was so particular until the middle of the last century that it was called the second Venice of Italy: it is situated on the valley where two torrents merge into each other and there were a lot of large and small bridges to connect the zones of the lower area. The town is shaped as a 'broken pomegranate', climbs up the ridges and reaches the top of the castle, happy image that Gesualdo Bufalino coined for Modica.

"Modica is a wonderful, authentic Sicilian town that isn't overcrowded with tourists. The La Casetta apartment is in a nice neighborhood close to all the historic monuments. There's a supermarket nearby and a great pizzeria, La Contea, within a five minute walk where we ate almost every night. Luckily, the apartment is on one of the lower streets, because Modica is perched on a couple of hills so you have to go up and down lots of stairs while exploring the town. But at least you won't gain any weight from all the chocolate and gelato that you'll eat because you'll burn the calories during your walks...La Casetta is a great deal for staying in Modica, from which you can also visit the other great Baroque cities of Southern Sicily. Just don't rely on the trains, they are often cancelled! We miss Modica already..."
