Notes on accommodation
This was my family home where my 4 boys grew up, so it is very suitable for families with children, plenty of toys, books and videos (in English). The house is well ventilated so reasonably cool in the summer. Central heating and fireplace for the winter.

Accessibility
As the entrance is on the ground floor it is wheelchair accessible. Just 1 small step inside the front door but the rest of the house is on 1 level.

Outside
There is a covered eating area with table and chairs outside the front door, as well as a small garden area down at the front of the house. There are sunbeds. The swimming pool is above the ground and is 7.5m x 3.5m.

Coast/Beach
We are approximately 100kms from the nearest beach.

Golf
2 golf courses in the area, at about half an hour's drive.

Special interest holidays
Cookery courses can be arranged, as well as painting courses. Visit our local ceramic workshop up the road and learn how to make ceramics. Have a relaxing massage, at the bottom of my road, Maria, ex masseuse for the italian female athletic team will sooth your aches and pains. Afterwards, if you're not too sleepy, you can pop in to the 12th century church attached to her house.

Travel
Florence airport is 45 mins away and Pisa is about an hour and a half by car. A car is essential.

Distances
5 minutes from the village of Rufina, where you will find a supermarket, local shops, weekly market and various restaurants. Fishing lake nearby (800m), with pizzeria where you can fish until midnight in the summer. Several vineyards nearby, winetasting can be organized, as well as famous castle where the Pazzi conspiracy took place. Florence is half an hour away, hop on the local train and save the hassle of driving and parking. We are well placed for trips to Siena and Pisa etc.

Further details
Rufina, famous for its wine, has a good selection of shops and restaurants, as well as banks, petrol station and pharmacy. There is a tennis club in the village as well as horse riding nearby. Go for a ride through the vineyards, and enjoy the fantastic scenery and nature. 2 local hotels have swimming pools and restaurants that are open to the public. We have 200 olive trees and make our own olive oil which we are very happy to share with our guests. We invite you to join us for a typical tuscan dinner with our family (son no. 3 is a professional chef!)
Explore Mugello, still a relatively undiscovered area. The town of Vicchio is the birthplace of two of the greatest renaissance artists, Giotto and Beato Angelico. Head down towards Arezzo and visit the Franciscan Sanctuary of La Verna, where it is said that St. Francis of Assisi received the stigmata on 17th September 1224. Nearby is the Monastery of Camaldoli, founded in 1024, with it's old style pharmacy which is open to the public.

Booking notes
A 30% deposit required upon confirmation. The remainder to be paid upon arrival.

Guest comments
"Our young family had a very enjoyable weeks stay at this property which met all, if not exceeded all our expectations. Suzy and her family were very welcoming and very helpful in sorting out anything we needed. Suzy was a mine of information about anything we wanted to do in the area and if she didn't know, she would find out. As well as this great hospitality, the property was spacious, well equipped and clean. The view was fabulous and the swimming pool was an added bonus especially for our sons."

"The Villa is everything you could want with quality fixtures, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and lovely views. A short drive to the shops and the rail connection into Florence.
'Welcome' goodies were thoughtfully left out for us and Suzy gave us every assistance to ensure our stay was the best possible. We were invited to join the family for a great social evening a wonderful holiday."

Owner profile

About the owner
I came to Florence to study Italian 29 years ago, and I'm still here. I met my husband Salvatore, he owned a great little wine bar in the centre of Florence - he is a wonderful cook, and son no. 3 is also a professional cook, so we always eat very well at home.

Year purchased: 1999

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We live in Chianti Rufina - not as well known as the other Chianti regions, eg "Chiantishire", we are a little off the regular tourist track, but still a beautiful area with lots of places to explore. Just down the road we have the town of Vicchio, birthplace of Giotto and Cimabue, Arezzo, birthplace of Piero della Francesca. Our house is situated among vineyards and olive groves, but we are just a 5 minute drive from the village of Rufina and only 30 minutes from Florence. We bought this farmhouse and restructured it, we originally lived on the top floor (the part we now rent) until we converted the animal stalls and moved downstairs. So the apartment is still very much a family home, everything from a fully equipped kitchen, to books and toys for kids.

Unique benefits of the property
Enjoy being secluded but also knowing that we live on the property so if any problems arise there is always someone here to help out. We often end up inviting our guests for a truly Tuscan dinner in our house, cooked by Salvatore and Antonio of course! But this is up to you, you can be as social or not as you want. We are just 5 minutes from the village of Rufina, but you can wander down the road and come across deer, hare, pheasants and wild boar, just to mention a few of our neighbours.
