A weekly change of linens and towels is included in the price. Refundable security deposit of 400 Euro, in case of breakages, is payable on arrival. Heating, electricity and cell phone charges are payable locally.
Changeover day
Saturday arrival, from 3/7 pm. Departure usually around 9-10 am.

Electricity, which includes the air conditioning and heating, is extra and payable locally.
Suitable for elderly or children, the villa has only a 2 inch step to access. We have especially planned for small children and babies, particularly with regard to safety. The pool has access from three points in the garden. All access points have gates to keep young children outside of the pool area. The pool is open all year.

Coast/Beach
Beautiful uncrouded sandy beaches can be located within a 20 minute drive of Villa Modica. The southern coastline has many long stretches of golden sandy beaches, mostly wild and very clean, and with shallow waters.

Horse riding, hiking, beach walks. Cooking classes or private city tours can be arranged at time of booking.
Travel
Catania is the nearest airport, approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes from Villa Modica. Car hire is ideally recommended but not absolutely essential as Villa Modica is located on the hills of Modica, a 20 minute walk into town.
Distances
Villa Modica is 5 minute by car from the center of Modica. In March 2003 UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has acknowleged that the city of Modica and its surrounding areas to be added to the WORLD HERITAGE LIST for the baroque treasures it holds in its historic buldings and architectural design unique only to this part of Sicily, Modica, built between two valleys and hills is known for its Baroque architecture, has restaurants, cafes, supermarkets.

From the outside of the villa, the views are breathtaking, you may hear the peal of Modica's bells from a mile away and the closer tinkling of cowbells. Already old when the Greeks found it, Modica is a vibrant city of 50,000 that's filled with mysterious feasts, great restaurants, and ancient wonders. In the summer, the beach town of Marina di Modica, 20 mins away is abuzz with nightlife. Also within 20 mins are the catacombs of Cava d'Ispica and the Port city of Pozzallo with its ferry to Malta. The Baroque city of Noto lies 30 mins east; Siracusa: 90 mins, Agrigento or Catania: 120 mins. A little history about Modica: In the middle of the second millennium the ancient Counts of Modica had great political and economical power in the island and exerted a so vast power as to be considered a state into the state "regnum in regno".
The town was so particular untill the middle of the last century that it was called the second Venice of Italy: it was situated on the valley where two torrents merged into each other and there were a lot of large and small bridges to connect the zones of the lower area.
The town is shaped as a "broken pomegranate", happy image that Gesualdo Bufalino coined for Modica, climbs up the ridges and reaches the top of the castle. Apart from the manor-house, the higher area of the town, the great expanses of the lands, for which the Counts was proud of its agriculture, in that wide areas where a geometric design formed by stone walls, result of a process of the divisions of the landed estates during the XV and the XVI century, constitutes, together with the great carob trees, one of the more charming aspects of the territory. Modica is called the POSITANO of Sicily.

Superb value and if you like your own space, this villa has it. Enjoyed Most: Garden areas and pool - they are beautiful and huge! Unpleasant Surprises: This is a tough question as this is a beautiful villa. The master beds were a little uncomfortable. Surrounding Area: Lovely rural aspect. Tips or Restaurants: Be aware there are no taxi services in Modica after 8pm. La Torre d'Oriente is an excellent restaurant. Overall: The owner was the perfect host. He was always available but never intruded. We loved having the meal ready Saturday when we arrived along with some provisions. After a long, tiring travel period, that was wonderful and delicious! Enjoyed Most: The meticulous attention the owner gave to his property and the villa. The beautiful views. Unpleasant Surprises: Italian beds never seem to meet American standards. Surrounding Area: Modica is a truly charming town. Good shopping, good restaurants, great ambiance.
