Holidays in Ostuni mean spending time in The White City. One of the finest and oldest fortified hill towns in all of Puglia, definitely the place to be if you like to delve into history. The impressive white walls of Ostuni will entice you on intriguing walks through the citadel; past ancient white-painted shops/bars/restaurants/houses, the splendour of the cathedral, the Bishop's Palace, and the stunning panoramic views over the Adriatic sea, where the white sandy blue flagged pristine beaches will no doubt beckon you. If you are a bargain lover then the large open air market on Saturday morning is a must. Not only will local grown produce will simply amaze you, but so will the bargains!

Further details
Summer in Puglia starts early (May) and means long hours of bright sunshine and temperatures average over 30°C. Rest of the year is generally warmer than the UK with temperatures (October - April) around 14°C.

Festival Days:
15 August = Sagra degli altri tempi. The historic centre is the scene for a display of old traditions, costumes and food preparation by the people of the old town. You can taste various types of traditional dishes and see the local artisans at work.

26 August = La Cavalcata. La Cavalcata is a horse parade that follows the procession of Saint Oronzo, the protector of the city. A silver statue of the saint is carried in memory of the knights who protected the pilgrims on the way to the sanctuary from the attacks of bandits. Horses and riders have mantillas and costumes in gold or silver embroidery.

2nd Sunday August = La processione della Grata. This procession leaves the Sanctuary della Grata to go to the centre of the city and, in the evening, the candles of the six thousand people who usually take part, light up the countryside. It is a striking scene you can watch from the top of the city.
Most supermarkets are shut on Thursdays and Sundays.
