Dolceacqua is situated on the border between the Italian flower Riviera and the French Côte d’Azur. Famous towns such as Menton, Monte Carlo, Nice, and Cannes etc are easily accessible. The village itself can trace its ancestry back to medieval times, as its beautiful castle and Roman Bridge demonstrate. Still today, the main industry is agriculture and flower cultivation. The villagers still tend their vineyards which produce the famous 'Rossese' red wine and their olive groves which surround the village. The flats are at one of the highest view points of Dolceacqua village and take in the spectacular view of the medieval castle and Roman Bridge on the opposite side of the river.

Coast/Beach
There is an abundance of nearby beaches in the area. The nearest beach is 8km. A particular favourite beach is 'The Calandre' at Ventimiglia, this is a sandy cove reached by a Cliff-side walk that provides stunning views. The fantastic man-made beaches in the beautiful locations of Menton and Monte Carlo are all within a short drive. Monte Carlo for example is approx 20km.
Golf
San Remo golf course is 25kms ( approx 35 min drive ) Built in the 1930's by British architects, it was the first golf country club to open in Italy. It has charming parcours amoung olive trees, overlooking the blue mediterranean. It is 18holes, par 69 and whilst it cannot be said to be amoungst the longer ones in Italy it is described as technically challenging! Some 40kms away there is The Hotel Castellaro Golf resort which combines golf with spa treatments, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts etc.
Skiing
Limone ski resort is only 65kms from Dolceacqua which means you can get up in the morning ,take a train ( excellent rail service, 6 times daily during Winter) or car, enjoy a days skiing and be back in time to enjoy a drink by the mediterranean in the evening! Limone is a very pretty area and is one of the oldest alpine villages in Italy with a 12th century church at its center. It has 90kms of downhill ski, 46 individual pistes and 29 ski lifts. The season normally starts from 8th December.
Special interest holidays
Dolceacqua is also a wonderful place to choose for a wedding. There are many lovely settings: tiny chapels set in olive groves, traditional churches in beautiful villages , or for civil ceremonies the choice is endless. We have a highly qualified, professional event planner who would be happy to discuss and plan your dream wedding. Please email for further info on inspection trips etc.We can also arrange olive harvesting holiday breaks. Guests can participate in the whole process from collecting the olives from the trees through to taking the olives to the mill to make the oil.
Travel
The nearest airport to Dolceacqua is Nice International Côte d’Azur, which is only 50kms or 45 minutes away by road. The airport is well served not only by all the major airlines but also by the most important budget airlines such as Easy Jet, Jet 2 and Ryan Air. Car hire is available at the airport and is to be recommended, although not essential.
Distances
There are several must see villages nearbye. Principle amongst them is Apricale, a village that seems to cling to the hillside. It was voted one of Italy's most beautiful villages only a few years ago. Rocchetta is also a lovely quaint village, well known for its crystal clear fresh water pools ideal for swimming. Otherwise, for the jet set lifestyle, the Côte d’Azur begins at Menton only 15kms away.
Further details
The area has a good selection of restaurants and pizzerias at which to enjoy traditional Italian food and perhaps a glass or two of the famous local 'Dolceacqua Rossese' red wine. Local bakers bake fresh bread daily and many shops sell local grown produce such as extra virgin olive oil, wine, fruit and vegetables. Other important amenities include two banks and a post office. The village holds a market every Thursday and during the summer months, offers many traditional events such as concerts, fireworks, operas and village festivals. Not to be missed is the 21 August fireworks display. Dolceacqua is also ideal for those who just wish to relax and enjoy nature . Some gentle strolls in old olive grooves start from just outside the front door of the appartments. For the more experienced there is an abundance of challenging hikes and for those who like to admire the countryside from the inside of the car the choice is endless. For the more active, Dolceacqua has a riding school and pony trekking is a popular pastime. Canyoning in Rocchetta is also ever more in demand. Another popular pastime is mountain biking as there is certainly no shortage of tracks. Should any of our guests wish to bring their own bike we can supply safe storage.
