Our holiday home in Tuscany has recently been modernised, retaining many traditional features. Both comfortable apartments are furnished to a high standard and offer stunning views and a private courtyard garden for alfresco dining. Low cost airlines fly into Pisa, Genova and Parma all within 2 hours drive of the property. Garfagnana is an ideal base for visiting the many delights of authentic Tuscany. The coast and the famous Cinque Terre are within 90 minutes drive. For the more active there are numerous possibilities, the most popular being walking the many tracks that cross the nearby National Parks offering breathtaking views. Bedroom with twin beds/or king-sized bed.
Double front door leading into snug area with fireplace, comfortable chairs, satellite t.v. Book shelves occasional table soft lighting.
Fully tiled bathroom fitted with W.C. bidet, shower with glass cubicle, large hand basin, bathroom cabinet and towel rails. An automatic washing machine, together with iron/board and household cleaning equipment are also included.
one large spacious dinning/living room with a well-equipped kitchen area with island. The kitchen includes microwave, fridge, freezer, electric oven and gas hob along with ample oak kitchen storage units. Large traditional antique sideboard for storage of utensils dishes, china etc.
There is a large oak dining table together with eight chairs and other traditional furniture. From this area arched double doors leading onto terrace offering unparalleled views, which is equipped with additional table and chairs together with sun lounges provided.

Unit 2. Bedroom 1 with double bed and en-suite (wc, wash basin, vanity unit).
Bedroom 2 with twin or double beds. Bedside draw chests with bedside lamps.
Small bedroom No. 3 with single bed, bedside table with table lamp. Chest of draws. All rooms have provision for clothes storage etc.
Modern shower room with large shower, wc, wash basin.
Newly fitted kitchen has been provided containing electric oven, gas hob, ceramic kitchen sink with mixer tap, marble work surfaces, fridge, extractor fan unit, microwave. All kitchen pots and pans, bake ware, kitchen utensils and china etc.
The living room has a traditional Tuscan built fireplace with wood burning stove. Furnished to a high standard with comfortable homely furniture. Twin sofas, sideboard, satellite TV, music centre, radio, coffee table, side table with soft lighting.
Dining area having extending oak table seating for 5 persons. New china, glass and cutlery, place mats and napkins are also provided.

 

Notes on accommodation
The house/apartments are in a friendly village, but there is very little English spoken. The housekeeper will be able to answer any questions our guests may have upon arrival. All linen and cleaning materials are provided, however we do not provide (swim towels). House manuals where help and details can be found are left for our guests in both apartments. During the summer months festivals, along with history and legend intertwine to create fascinating events. Although situated in the Garfagnana, we also overlook Lunigiana which again has many splendid things to offer the tourist. Come and spend your vacation in Tuscany, Italy. You will not be disappointed!

Accessibility
Not suitable for people with mobility problems as there are a few steps under archways of this Tuscan village location to the house.

Outside
A small private courtyard garden with dining table and chairs provided. There are bars and restaurants within easy reach by car. Nearby is the rail link with trains to Lucca, linking onward journey into Pisa or Florence or Aulla, linking onward journeys into Rome.

Coast/Beach
1 hour away by car, the beautiful coastal towns of Lerici and Portovenere. From here it is possible to discover the picturesque coastal villages by regular inexpensive boat tours or enjoy the excellent seafood restaurants. Many other coastal areas to visit within this region.

Skiing
One hour drive to Cerrato.

Special interest holidays
Guided visits and Itineraries can be pre-booked upon request in the Parco Alpi Apuane. There are several opportunities to carry out tours by mountain bike along the paths and dirt roads within the park. All trains of the Lucca-Aulla line + coastal offer train + bike service for you to carry out itineraries which are known and of great charm in the area.

Travel
1 hour 15 mins from Pisa or Parma Airports or 1 hour 45 mins from Genoa by car. Inexpensive flights connect to both Airports and depending on apartment availability, midweek flights and apartment holiday duration can be flexible. It is possible to drive from Calais in 14 hours, and generally we recommend the use of a car to see the beautiful Serchio Valley also to enjoy and get the most from this beautiful region.

Distances
Within an 1 hour 30 mins. by car there are numerous towns such as Barga, Fosdinovo offering castles, cathedrals bars and restaurants a plenty. In addition the more busy seaside resorts of the Versilian coast offer traditional seaside facilities. All around there are natural wonders including the Grotta Del Vento. (Cave of the winds) etc.

Further details
Most local towns have weekly markets usually on different days of the week, and in summer there are numerous festivals based on wine, mushrooms, music and medieval pageants etc. Although Serramezzana is a country village you are not far from access to banks, petrol stations, super market etc.

About the owner
We are a retired couple who have grown to love Italy and its people from our 40 years of exploring the country. We have an interest in history, gardens, along with architecture, so Italy is the perfect fit. We ourselves are, the type of people who prefer not to roast ourselves on beaches, but prefer to explore and experience what a country has to offer. We have travelled the world widely, but are always pleased to return to our holiday home in Tuscany. If you chose to visit, you likewise, will experience the friendliness of the local people and view their breathtaking countryside.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Our love affair with Italy began some 30 years ago whilst our children were young, and seeking an inexpensive holiday. Living in a large house, we decided to try home exchange. We swapped with 3 different Italian families in various regions, sometimes also swapping cars and pets. This was pre internet days and all communication was by letter. Fortunately in 1999 after numerous visit, we were able to purchase our holiday home in Tuscany. Choosing this region was easy as the region was so beautiful and green with brilliant climate. The house was a no brainer, since once we saw the view and met the local village people we new that this was the place for us.

Unique benefits of the property
We are spoilt for access to the region, since we are in a triangle between 3 airports all using low cost airlines and motorway connections. The authentic Hamlet of Sermezzana is perfectly situated for exploring the wonderful National Parks and Coast, including the Cinque Terre. Fontana Vecchia is situated on the edge of the village with breathtaking unobstructed panoramic views and benefits from its tranquil private setting. The house itself can be rented as a 4 bedroom family home sleeping 7 or as two complete separate private apartments sleeping 2 and 5, each with dining and kitchen facilities.
