Main living room with dining area and kitchen

|
This is a very recently restored former end of row farm building with an overall area of about 200 square metres. The owner will always be available to meet, help and advise holidaymakers. Downstairs, there is a 1 bedroom self-contained flat. Upstairs is a luxurious and spacious 2 bedroom apartment. The house is in a very rural lane which is one way for traffic and so very peaceful. Both apartments overlook the garden beyond which stretches the uninterrupted view to the hills beyond.

Accessibility
The existence of the downstairs apartment means that a handicapped person could live there without too much difficulty if they are able to cope with a standard bathroom with a shower stall. There are a few steps from the garden to the terrace when approaching the main entrance to the house where a ramp could be constructed, and a couple of steps between the entrance and the downstairs rooms. It may be of interest that the owner is medically qualified.
Outside
The garden, amounting to about 1000 square metres bounded by hedges, is the width of the house and is a mostly lawned area extending down to the gravelled car parking area at the end. Between the garden and the house is an attractive, sunken terrace paved with local, old style, terracotta tiles and shaded by a splendid walnut tree. A small pool suitable for children can be put into service and would, naturally, be for the exclusive use of visitors.
Coast/Beach
Half an hour's drive to the west of Lucca is the long, sandy, Mediterranean coast of Versilia stretching for miles southwards from Massa and Carrara (marble quarries!) past towns such as Marina di Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio, all of which take advantage of the dozens of public and private beaches to cater to the summer holiday trade.
Golf
There is a selection of golf courses, but mostly about one hour's drive away.
Travel
Pisa airport, just half an hour away, is served by numerous daily flights from the UK by the main airlines, charter companies and low cost airlines. Florence, 45 minutes away, also is served by flights from several UK destinations. There are plenty of car rental companies at both, and use of a car is strongly recommended.
Distances
Guamo can be reached on foot and the nearest bars and shops are just 1km away. Further on you come to the southern side of the city of Lucca with a vast supermarket and numerous shops and other facilities. The walls of Lucca are just 4 km from the house and once inside the medieval city itself you can spend the rest of your stay wandering the little streets, walking round the 10 m high, 16th century, unbroken walls which have a pedestrian roadway on the top.
Further details
Being so close to the city, it is safe to say that all facilities are generally available. Local restaurants are to be found... everywhere! Some of the most atmospheric - and the cheapest - are to be found further north up the valley of the river Serchio which divides the Apuan Alps from the Apennines. In recent years, local restaurants have laid much greater emphasis on fish and sea food, the best of which - and the most expensive - are to be found near the coast. Those with more of an appetite for culture will be able to exploit the proximity of Florence (about one hour by car, a little more by train or bus); Siena (about two hours); Pisa (half an hour). Music lovers will appreciate the links Lucca, the birthplace of Giacomo Puccini, has always had with music. There are many concerts to be listened to locally and a highlight is the annual Puccini Festival held in nearby Torre del Lago every August. Oenologists will enjoy visiting some of the nearby 'fattorie' to sample the 'Rosso delle Colline Lucchesi', the local red wine.
Booking notes
Bookings must be confirmed by a payment of 50% of the rental price. Not later than a month before the booking date the balance and the caution money deposit of 200 euros is to be paid. The caution money will be returned at the end of the stay if there are no outstanding payments due.
