A luxuriously family-friendly modern property with 4 good sized double bedrooms situated in the hillside town of Menaggio Croce. The property has successfully rented for 3 years and the owner is happy to take questions/calls about the property. 3 of the 4 double bedrooms have lake views. This property is ideal for a family getaway and offers a fully-fitted contemporary style Kitchen, an Open-Plan Living/Dining. We have also had golfers and long weekend trips staying with us. The apartment also comes with a private garden, a small private pool and a great terrace for outside eating and enjoying the sun. It is set in close to a number of local walks and the Menaggio golf club.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in euros. 3 night break - 40% off weekly tariff / 4 night break - 30% off weekly tariff / 5 night break - 20% off weekly tariff / 6 night break - 10% off weekly tariff.
To make a confirmed booking, you will be asked to fill in our booking form online and pay a 30% deposit. The remaining balance will then be due 6 weeks before arrival. Credit cards accepted.
Changeover day
Changeover day is flexible and stays of less that a week are also available - please enquire with the owner for further details and charges.

There is a cleaning and linen cost which is payable locally. This ranges from 70-100 depending on length of stay. All bed-linen and towels included. If staying for 2 weeks or more the bed linen and towels will be refreshed after each week. |

Outside
The apartment has a large private terrace that has access from the main living room and main bedrooms. This has plenty of room for evening dining and excellent lake and mountain views. The terrace is next to a small private garden suitable for BBQs.
Outdoor furniture and BBQ equipment is provided. The garden also has a small private pool - brilliant for a quick dip after a hot day. The apartment has parking for 2 cars directly in front of the apartment.
Coast/Beach
Lake Como is not blessed with sandy beaches however there is a newly refurbished lido by the lake in Menaggio that has changing facilities, a big outside pool and access to the lake for swimming. There is a daily charge.
Golf
The 18 hole Menaggio and Cadenabbia Golf course is one of the oldest in Italy. Overlooking Lake Como, the course provides splendid views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The apartment is five minutes walk from the course. Though charges may have changed, green fees are 55-70 euros depending on the day of the week. You can also hire clubs and get weekly passes.
Skiing
Skiing is an option from Menaggio with some local resorts only 45 minutes away. The local international resorts in St Moritz and Madessimo are both about 1 1/2 hour drive.
Special interest holidays
The walking is spectacular with numerous well marked routes around the local mountains.
Travel
Milan is well served by the cheap airlines as well as larger carriers. The 3 airports you can use for Lake Como are Malpensa (nearest to Menaggio at approximately 1 hour 15 minutes drive); Linate (about 2 hours away) and Bergamo (about 2 hours drive). We have never driven but believe it is about 750 miles from Calais.
Distances
Menaggio is about 1 mile down the hill. There are frequent buses from the town centre to close to the apartment (direction Lugano) which is probably the best route back. In peak season there seem to be lots of ferries around the lake and good bus services however we would suggest car rental to make the most of your break. Porlezza is 3 miles towards Lugano and is the best spot to stock with provisions from the local supermarket.
Further details
Theres a lot to do on Lake Como and in the surrounding area. Popular activities include: Menaggio is on one corner of the golden triangle of with Bellaggio and Varena - all beautiful lake side villages with various villas open to the public. The road to Como is also lined with a number of beautiful villages and villas inlcuding Argeno, Leno and the Villa di Balbianello. Further up the lake the scenery becomes more mountainous, quieter and there is more opportunity to do water sports. Lugano (Switzerland) is also 40 minutes drive.
Eating - lots a great restaurants in the locality. Ones of note close to the apartment include La Baita (spectacular lake and mountain views), La Barcola, Agrico Tourismo (extremely cheap good local food - rub shoulders with the locals), Hotel Linda (best local pizza), The Red Bay in Menaggio (lakeside location makes this a beautiful spot for lunch or supper). The walking is spectacular with numerous well marked routes around the local mountains.
Boat trips a regular ferry service operates up and down the Lake, to enable you to visit other towns. Places worth going to include Bellagio, Como, Lenno and Varenna. The ferry terminal is close to the town centre. Shopping the closest large shopping centres are in Como and Colico (top of the lake). Alternatively you can get the train into Milan for the day (either from Como or Varenna). Spa treatments there is a nice Spa in the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio.

About the owner
Both of us work in financial services, have 2 young kids and live north of London. We advertise 2 properties on Owners Direct in Lake Como and Suffolk. They are both extremely different in many ways (built almost 300 years apart!). We hope you would enjoy staying in either.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Living in Hertfordshire UK we missed the mountains and being near the water, Lake Como was a perfect destination to get a bit of both. Both of us love staying in our apartment and have been many times with friends and and family plus our new little one. For us the attraction of the area is the wide variation of possible activities - day trips to Milan and Como, using the lake boats to visit lake side villas and villages, walking in the mountains, swimming in the Menagio lido and spending long afternoons in the selection of decent local restaurants.

Unique benefits of the property
One of the highlights for both of us when we stay is sitting out on the balcony with the Lake Como view with a bottle of wine - once we have done that I certainly know our holiday has started again. The view will not disappoint.
As we have regularly gone with kids one of the real bonuses in Menaggio (the local village) is a new lido by the lake.
