Perched above the Mediterranean Sea on a magnificent Gorge in the Pollino National Park, where you can trek, climb or white water raft, you will find the picturesque village of Maiera. This 'Centro Storico' has a magical feel and strong sense of history. Artworks and murals painted on the walls create unexpected bursts of colour and the village has a real sleepy almost dreamy feel to it, the ideal place to get away from it all. The beaches are just a 6 minute drive down the winding road as well as the villages of Cirella and Diamante where you will find typical Italian bars, restaurants and shops. The apartment has been recently been renovated to a high standard and has stunning views across the Gorge to the village of Grisola. This is a taste of real Italy and an experience not to be missed!

Accommodation
| Bedrooms: | Bedroom 1 with double four poster bed and magnificent view overlooking gorge. Bedroom 2 with two single beds with same amazing views across gorge to Maiera's sister town Grisolia. |

| Kitchen: | The kitchen dining area is finished to high standard and consists of electric cooker, gas hob, fridge/freezer and dining table for 4/6. Pots, pans, cutlery, kettle and toaster are also included. |
| Living Rooms: | The living room is part of the kitchen and has sofa bed, armchair and open fire. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
Bed linen and towels (except beach towels) are provided. Apartment is cleaned and aired before arrival and again at the end of the holiday. |

Accessibility
Please note that because of Maiera's position set high on a gorge the village has a lot of narrow and steep winding steps. you will need to climb these steps to get to the apartment from the car parking area. We strongly recommend the use of a car to explore the area.
Outside
There is a small outside porch area at the front of the apartment, 2 outside chairs are provided, this overlooks the village and the sea.
Coast/Beach
6 minute drive to local beaches. There are a wide range of beaches in the area including the stunning Maretea, Scalea, Diamante and San Nicola Arcella.
Skiing
About 1½ hours drive from Maiera are Calabria's main Ski resorts. These are in the Sila Grande which is near Cosenza.
Travel
Thomsonfly from Gatwick or Manchester during summer months. You can also fly to Naples (2 hours) with Easyjet, BMI, BA Airways, First Choice, Myair, Thomsonfly and Virgin fly from from Luton, Gatwick, Heathrow, Standsted, Birmingham, East Midlands and others. Car hire is essential.

A few suggestions for things to do in the area: Canoeing and white water rafting are very popular activities on the famous white waters of Fiume Lao. You can also see amazing wildlife including the European grey wolf, wild cats, boars and the rare golden eagle. Scuba Diving at DinoSub - Praia a mare. The dive centre is on the beach at Praia a mare (two miles from Scalea). Snorkelling - lots of interesting sites in Scalea and up the coast. Paragliding - In Praia a Mare (a few miles away). Aqua Park in praia a Mare on the beach near Isola Dino. Aquafan is the biggest water park in Italy. Horse riding centre is located two miles south of Scalea on the Strada for Verbicaro and Marcelluna. Go karting near Scalea. Jeep Safari - Explore the Pollino National park by jeep.

Diamante - promenade, beach and pretty old town famous for its chillies and wall murals. Cirella - very quiet beach while other beaches are busy. San Domenica Taloa - hill town, fab views over coast. Rivello, Aieta, Tortora - hill towns with windy cobblestone streets. Papasidero - hilltown, cave paintings from bronze age, white water rafting and canoeing. Cosenza - local city 1hr 15min drive, pretty old town. Sicily is a 3hr drive south with a short 25 min ferry crossing. Naples, Pompei and Amalfi coast 2 hours.
