This converted stone barn is near our farmhouse but has plenty of private outside space. Our aim has been to preserve much of the original charm and architectural features of the stone building: there are exposed beams and terracotta and wooden floors throughout.It is 800m from the village of Badia a Passignano with its castellated monastery. The property, in the heart of the Chianti wine-growing area of Tuscany, appears secluded and remote but is only 5km from the superstrada to Florence (1/2 hour away) and Siena (45 mins) and is within easy reach of many beautiful hilltop towns and villages. The area is protected for its natural beauty. There is no swimming pool but a wonderful lake near the house where our guests enjoy swimming and picnicing.

Notes on prices
The prices refer to 2/3 people using the barn. There is an additional charge of £100 per week for 4/5 people.
Changeover day
Saturday generally but other days negotiable.

Notes on accommodation
The barn is an ideal centre for sightseeing or for retreating to paint, read or write. The thick stone walls keep it beautifully cool in the summer months. As there are a number of stone steps and uneven ground it is most suited to guests who are sure-footed. Lack of light poullution means that this is an ideal spot for those interested in astronomy or gazing at the night sky.
Outside
There is plenty of private outside space, with a barbecue, and views over olive trees and the surrounding countryside. The barn is covered in wisteria, jasmine and roses. There are 2 outside dining areas, 1 in a splendid covered loggia overlooking the monastery. There is a herb garden outside the main double bedroom.
Coast/Beach
There is lake within walking distance of the house. A public swimming pool in Sambuca (3km) and others in Tavarnelle and Greve. The nearest beach is 90 mins away.

Cooking and painting course can be arranged locally.
Travel
Florence airport is 40 mins away and Pisa 70-90 mins. Although there is a good bus service into Florence and Siena from the superstrada (5km away) a car is essential for exploring the area thoroughly.

Further details
There are numerous excellent restaurants and trattorias in the area. Sambuca (3km has a bank, swimming pool and good small food shops). The closest supermarkets are in the market towns of Greve and Tavarnelle but there are street markets selling fresh produce nearby on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Explore the night sky here, untroubled by light pollution.
Booking notes
We require a £100 deposit for each week, at the time of booking. The balance of the rent to be paid 3 weeks in advance of arrival. Last minute and long term bookings are negotiable.
