Guest comments
This was our first trip to Brigolante and Umbria..... hopefully the first of many. The accommodation was first class - clean, well maintained and with beautiful views over the surrounding hillside. Visiting Easter week, the accommodation was a convenient distance (5 mins by car) from Assisi to avoid the throngs of visitors.
Rebecca and her extended family were wonderful hosts. Our kids had lots of company and the freedom to enjoy it and as any travelling parent knows, if the kids are happy, we can relax and that makes a great holiday for everyone.
The rural location and the bustle of family life all around offer a great insight into the local way of life. The passion of the hosts for Umbria and determination to offer their guests a memorable Italian experience is obvious throughout the visit.
We had a wonderful time, genuinely hope to return soon and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone travelling to the area for a rural break with or without kids.

Owner profile
About the owner
Rebecca Winke, originally from Chicago, joined her husband Stefano Bagnoli in Assisi in 1993, and shortly thereafter the couple began a lengthy renovation project on the Brigolante farmhouse, which has been in the Bagnoli family for at least eight generations.
The result has been more successful than they could have suspected, as the managing the apartment rentals has gone from a hobby to a career for Rebecca and she and Stefano both fear they may never get Stefano's parents to retire now that they have guests poking around the barns and garden to appreciate their hard work.
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
After a new home was constructed by the family in the 1970's, the historic farmhouse, once attached to the neighboring houses as part of a medieval hilltop castle and, it is suspected, monastery, had fallen into ruin.
Because it had become dangerously unstable, we began doing small 'fix-it-up' weekend projects on the building and surrounding property. As work went on, the project mushroomed over several years and, simultaneously, there was a boom in popularity of farm holidays in Tuscany and Umbria, so the Bagnolis decided to carve out vacation apartments from the farmhouse and see if the resulting vacation rental business could inject new life into the family farm, run by Stefano's parents, Ugo and Emma. The main farmhouses on Brigolante can be traced back at least to 1100.
