The apartment forms the top floor purpose-built block, in the very centre of the beautiful mediaeval Tuscan hill village of Sassetta. The village is small, but offers a range of facilities including a pizzeria and restaurant, several bars, a range of shops, a bank with ATM, and a pharmacy and doctor. The village is lively throughout the summer season, with a range of festivals (mostly revolving around local food and wine), craft markets and entertainment. A car is recommended (although the village does have a bus service), and it is possible to load and unload outside the apartment. Longer-term parking is available a couple of minutes' walk away. The apartment offers simple but comfortable and spacious self-catering accommodation for up to six people.

Accessibility
Access to the property is by stairs leading to a balcony.
Outside
There are small balconies off the bathroom and the living room, ideal for a little quiet reflection or reading!
Coast/Beach
The nearest beaches are 15km away at Donoratico. The whole coast is studded with beautiful beaches. Beaches follow the usual Italian arrangement - areas of paid sun-beds, and free public areas between. Even in the summer, when things are very busy, a short walk will normally find you a quieter spot. There is a good variety of shopping and eating possibilities throughout.
Travel
We do recommend hiring a car - there is a reliable but infrequent bus service and your own transport will greatly improve your travel options. Pisa airport is 70km away - mostly motorway driving. The route from the coast to the village is along mountain roads. These are good quality roads and well maintained, but they have many twists and turns! It's best to take it easy at first if you are not used to this type of motoring - you soon get used to it. Sassetta is about 890 miles from Calais.
Distances
The apartment is situated in the village centre. The larger village of Castagneto Carducci is 8 km away. Donoratico, with supermarkets is 11km. The area is one of mediaeval hill towns, wooded hills, olive groves and internationally famous vineyards, centred on Bolghieri (18km). Popolonia with Etruscan tombs by the famous Gulf of Baratti is 25km away. Elba and Napoleon's villa is reached from the port Piombino, 35km away. The Tower of Pisa is an hour's drive, Florence and Sienna 1½-2 hours.

Bookings can be made by phone or email, and will be confirmed in writing once a non-refundable deposit of £100 has been received. Balance of account to be settled one calendar month prior to start of the let. We will arrange for our local English-speaking representative to meet guests and hand over keys.
