Entrance to the house is by terracotta steps onto a gated terrace which is a perfect place to sit and have a glass of wine overlooking the hills together with the view of the old bell tower & the houses of the village below. The front door opens into a large cool dining room. There is a newly fitted and well equipped kitchen with wooden table and chairs and chestnut beamed ceiling. There is a separate living room with comfortable sofas beside an open terracotta fireplace. For extra comfort during the cooler months there is an enclosed wood burner in the dining room. It is within walking distance of the village of Piegaio, there is a bar, an excellent restaurant which caters for Gluten free and vegetarian pizzas and meals. It also caters for take away pizza. There is a post office, chemist and 2 grocery shops. Piegaio is an ideal location to tour from, with the cities of Lucca, Florence, Pisa and Siena within driving or by train from Lucca or the local station.

Changeover day
During the low/mid season (April, May and June, Sept & Oct) our changeover days can be flexible. During the high season (July, August), our changeover day is Saturday only.

Kitchen: Kitchen: Well equipped, fully fitted kitchen with hob and oven, washing machine, fridge freezer, microwave, table and chairs.
Living Rooms: Dining Room: Family sized dining room table and chairs and 2 comfortable sofas in the living room. Open log fire and separate enclosed wood burner.

Weekly towels and linen are included in the price. If the holiday is more than one week, there is a change of towels and linen for further weeks.

Notes on accommodation
The bedrooms are accessed via chestnut wooden stairs from the dining room. On this level there is a double bedroom and a single bedroom with a good sized bathroom. The single bedroom has a door that opens onto a long terrace. This elevated and sunny aspect, provides a great place for al fresco dining whilst enjoying the picturesque view. Loungers are provided for sunbathing. There is a further staircase up to another twin/double bedroom, but this bedroom is not suitable for young children or the infirm as the stairs are steep.

Accessibility
Off road parking is available and luggage drop off is close by. As there are stairs leading to the entrance of this accommodation it is not suitable for the disabled or infirm.

Outside
Although there is no garden, the long terrace on the 2nd level provides a sunny and secluded area for al fresco dining and sunbathing .The smaller terrace outside the dining room on the entrance level, provides a further sitting area for that well deserved glass of wine.

Coast/Beach
There are miles and miles of beaches with 45 mins drive. In Italy by far and away the majority of the beaches are ‘pay to use’. However between Viareggio & Forte di Marmi there are a few free beaches. The pay to use beaches are owned & maintained by local bars & hotels. The charge is approx 25 euro for 2 people, for the day. The price includes loungers & Parasol etc. already set up to use, also the use of the showers & WC facilities. 2 lovely open air public swimming pools are within 15/20 mins

Skiing
Abetone is the closest ski resort and can be reached within 1 ½ hours of the house. This ski resort is popular with the locals.

Travel
Easy travel by air from either Pisa or Florence airports, both approx. 1 hour drive. Bologna is an alternative and the drive is approx. 2 ½ hrs.
Travelling by car is an alternative as more guests are deciding to bring their own car.

Distances
The Cities of Lucca, Florence and Pisa can be reached via car or by train from either the main station in Lucca or from the local train station of Diecimo - 10 mins drive and easy parking.

There is a public swimming pool in a nearby village for open air bathing.

Further details
In close proximity to Piegaio is the village of Celle dei Puccini, named after the generations of the Puccini family who were inspired to write their famous music. The Puccini home is now a museum showing the history of Giacomo Pucini and his family. 2 concerts are generally held during July and August, in the small piazza outside the museum and are free of charge. (Donations gratefully received!) There are also various other small villages nearby that are worth a visit for example Colognora which has its own Chestnut Museum explaining the utility of the chestnut tree .

In Diecimo the small shops including a bakers, a grocery/butcher shop & 2 pasticcieres/ coffee shops a drive of approx. 8 mins from the house. A further drive of 5 mins, the supermarket which has a separate butchers and deli shop, in Borgo Mozzano

The house is centrally located to visiting the many fabulous sites of the region. Garfagnana with its breathtaking views, where trekking and horseriding is available.

Barga, named as the most Scottish town in Italy, Grotta del vento with its underground caves and lakes.

On request a booking form will be sent with bank details for payment. To secure the dates, a booking deposit of 30% is required, the balance payable 8 weeks prior to commencement of the holiday.
