Casa Pastano, a restored farmhouse and ancient hunting lodge, is situated in a peaceful woodland setting in the village of Tornolo (600m) on the borders of Emilia Romagna and Liguria. This unspoilt area with its ancient towns and villages and gastronomic delights can be explored by foot, car or cycle. The house is only a few minutes walk from the village shops and local amenities. It nestles on the side of the Taro valley with magnificent, panoramic views from the house across the river to the ancient castle of Compiano and Appenine Mountains beyond. The market town of Bedonia (5km), famous for its parmesan cheese, has a weekly market, chemist, banks, small supermarket, interesting shops and restaurants and an outdoor swimming pool. Further along the valley is the medieval town of Borgotaro (15km) famous for porcini mushrooms. The historic city of Parma and resorts of the Italian Riviera can both be reached by train or car within the hour.

Changeover day
The preferred day for arrivals and departures is Saturday (after 4pm) to Saturday 11am, but other arrangements may be considered, depending on season, where flights etc. do not suit these times.

Living Rooms: The spacious living area is divided into a comfortable sitting room with two sofas, coffee table, open log fire, television, DVD player, sound system and a pleasant dining area which opens onto the large sun terrace.
Other: All rooms are fully and comfortably furnished in traditional Italian style.

Notes on accommodation
The apartment is on the first floor and has its own private external stone staircase, typical of the area which leads onto a large sun terrace with panoramic views. There are fine views from all windows. The apartment has full gas central heating and is well equipped and furnished throughout. Children are always welcome, however adult supervision of smaller children is of course recommended, particularly on the balcony terrace and in the grounds.

Outside
Casa Pastano is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and is situated in about two and a half acres of natural woodland with many old fruit and nut trees (fig, apple, cherry and walnut) and an abundance of wild flowers. The grounds have been terraced in the style typical of the region. There is ample private parking and a barbecue area with a traditional pizza oven and barbecue grill.

Coast/Beach
The Ligurian coast at La Spezia (50km) can be reached in about one hour by car, or train from Borgotaro. Along the coastline can be found the small ports and beautiful scenery of the famous Cinque Terre and the attractive nearby resorts of Sestri Levante, Chiavari, Santa Margherita and Portofino.
Closer to Casa Pastano there is a popular river pool and small beach cafe at the nearby River Taro (2km). There are open air swimming pools in Bedonia (5km) and Borgotaro (15km).

Travel
Parma Airport (70km) has convenient flights to and from London Stansted (Ryanair). Car hire is available at the airport or alternatively a bus link operates from the airport to Parma train station, with frequent trains to Borgotaro(1hr) and a taxi to the Apartment. Bicycles can be hired locally.

Other airports offering flights by low cost airlines and car hire include Genoa (86km); Pisa (140km); Bologna (140km); Milan (190km) ( Linate, Bergamo, or Malpensa airports); and Verona (225km).

Booking notes
1. Reservation - By email or telephone to the owners to check availability and prices.

2. Booking - An advance payment of 25% by bank transfer to the owners with the balance due 6 weeks prior to arrival.

3. Cancellation - In the event of cancellation a refund will be given for any full week that the Apartment is re-let, less a handling charge of 10% of the weekly rate.

About the owner
We are a retired professional couple from England with backgrounds in teaching and surveying. Our discovery of this beautiful area of Italy was brought about by our daughter’s marriage to an Italian whose family originate from Tornolo.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We were impressed by the beauty of the area and were fortunate to find this great property in an amazing setting surrounded by mountains, meadows and forests and with panoramic views of the Taro valley. The property had been lovingly restored to a high standard by its previous Italian owners, and we have since been able to concentrate on developing the extensive grounds as well as making the interior both welcoming and comfortable for stays by ourselves and our holiday visitors.

Unique benefits of the property
Our guests tell us that they particularly appreciate the beautiful scenery, tranquillity and comfortable well equipped facilities. Although secluded the house is only a short walk from the centre of the village, and is also very close by car to the nearby market towns. The area has a rich gastronomical tradition and is world famous for its local food products such as Parma ham, Parmesan cheese, porcini mushrooms, fine hillside wines and speciality pasta dishes. It provides an ideal centre from which to explore the area by walking, cycling or touring and has easy access by road or rail to the Ligurian Coast, northern Tuscany and the major cities of Parma, Pisa, Florence and Bologna.
