Notes on accommodation
The accommodation is suitable for children but the surrounding grounds are natural and wild. Children will need to be supervised. Well-mannered pets are welcome. The owners live on the estate, in a separate location. The area is alive with natural noises at night and you could hear crickets, the dawn chorus and the like. If you stay up late you will be rewarded by something you will never forget - fireflies in the forest and the Milky Way in the sky. We welcome our guests with a seasonal gift. We can also offer camping accommodation within our grounds. Please contact us for details if you are adventurous!
Accessibility
This property is not suitable for people with mobility problems.
Outside
Paved patio, barbecue, outdoor chairs and tables, and extensive land to roam around and explore. We don't have a swimming pool but there is a natural spring in the forest to help you cool down (not available during drought periods). There are several rivers nearby river for the adventurous to swim, fish or snorkel. Whilst with us, you could encounter some of the wildlife of rural Italy.
Coast/Beach
The beautiful seaside town of Albisola in the Italian Riviera is just 30 minutes away by car. There are extensive sandy beaches, including one that accepts dogs. A one-day train trip can take you to Monte Carlo, San Remo and Ventimiglia. Other resorts on the Riviera include Genova, Cinque Terre and Portofino. Many charming small towns along the coastline remain to be explored, either by car or by local bus. The area around Albisola is, on the whole, undiscovered by overseas tourists.
Golf
There are three 9 hole golf courses within a 25-45 minute radius (by car).
Special interest holidays
We can arrange tailor-made romantic weddings on our estate. As much or as little you require; food, photographer, flowers etc. A dream of a lifetime. Please contact us for further details. If you would like to come and work with us we will give you free camping accommodation. Work includes vineyard restoration, woodland management, wild orchid conservation, mushroom hunting and gardening. Please bear in mind that the area is very sensitive to the rhythms of nature. Wild orchids appear in late spring and go by the summer. Different types of wild flowers come and go within weeks. The wild boar and the deer are nowhere to be seen during the hunting season in October (they are not fools!) although you can still see their footprints in the morning. There is always something interesting to see at any time of the year. Children like to visit our animal corner and milk the goat!
Travel
Genova airport is an easy 50 minutes drive from the property. You can also reach us from Nice by train, or from Turin or Milan by car or train. You can also come by train to Savona (from the UK!) and take the coach up to Mioglia. Car hire is recommended but not essential. We live on the estate and are more than willing to give you a lift if you are stuck.
It is possible to go to the Monte Carlo F1 Races. We can provide tickets and/or a Ferrari-enthusiast guide!
Distances
The unspoilt village of Mioglia is just minutes away by car. The unique Beigua Regional park and the charming town of Sassello can be reached in 15 mins by car. Acqui Terme (spa) is within 40 mins drive. There is a daily coach service to villages and towns in the area, with connections to Albisola or Savona. It is also possible to hire a bike and cycle to nearby villages, restaurants or places of interest.
Further details
The restaurant Oddera is just 2-3 mins drive from us. Although unassuming and rustic, it is rather famous, and the food is believed to be one of the best in Liguria. There is also another restaurant in the village, Il Pirata, with good local dishes. There are several other restaurants, tavernas and trattorias within a short drive from the property. Mioglia also has a cafeteria, a post office, a newsagent, 2 grocery shops, a mini-market, a baker and a butcher. There are several farmer's and antique markets within easy reach, mainly on weekends. Your stay may be lucky enough to coincide with a local 'sagra' - a village fair. These take place three or four times in the spring and summer. If you want to try your skills in vine planting, grape harvesting, photography, painting or sketching, scrambling and climbing, or wildlife watching, we can arrange these within our own private grounds, although we are not responsible for any discomfort or injury, which is directly related to the natural environment.

Guest comments
Below are some genuine comments from our guestbook. We are proud to say that during the four years we have been operating we never had a negative or even a neutral comment. Only positive ones.
We loved the seclusion yet comfort of the Rustico and our warm welcome. We have had an amazing time here! We loved the night noises and spend many a night lying in my bed just listening, and at times even felt I was back home in Africa. We will definitely tell all our friends about the Rustico and all you have done. Ali + Jason August 2009
We are sad that our holiday has come to an end, but we all agree that this was the best holiday we've ever had. Angie, August 2010
Having arrived full of plans to explore, we have done very little as we have found it so relaxing, so we spent long, hot days enjoying the Rustico, playing games, and sunbathing.
Hugh, Anna and William. July 2011
Owner profile
That's us: Stella + Mario working in our vineyard
About the owner
We share our time between UK and Italy. Two completely different lifestyles but one cannot exist without the other.
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We found the property by accident and bought it as scrap-land. When we started clearing the undergrowth we found several small vineyards (it turned out that these were all part of a huge vineyard, abandoned for decades). These are now being developed and we started making our own wine.
Unique benefits of the property
The old barn was used for storage of hay and as a small stable. It is now completely restructured and many old locals come to spend an afternoon with us to see the transformation and tell us stories about their childhood.
