La Pietra has been carefully restored using old materials but with an eye for comfort as well as beauty. The house has an extensive library of novels and travel guides. The comprehensive house book is an excellent resource for information about the house and what to see and do in the area. A computer with broadband internet access is provided for guest use. |
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service: |
Quality towels and linen are included, as is a weekly clean and linen change. Additional cleaning can be arranged if desired. Guests have full access to the linen cupboards and washing machines and clothes dryers are provided. |
Notes on accommodation
The thick stone walls and the screened, shuttered windows, as well as the elevated location, make the house comfortable even on the hottest days. In cooler weather, double glazing, central heating and open fireplaces make the house suitable for year-round holidays. The views and the sunsets in autumn and winter are spectacular. The furnishings include antique pieces and items that have been handmade by local craftsmen using traditional designs that enhance the timeless charm of the home.

Accessibility
The ground floor is suitable for guests with limited mobility because there is level access from the car parking area, and the accommodation is on one level.
Outside
The pool is superb; 18m x 7m with Roman steps and a stylish infinity-edge design. There are wide stone terraces around the pool as well as ample lawns and shade trees. A large, rose-covered pergola frames a shaded terrace with stone tables and chairs. Umbrellas and sun loungers are provided. The pool area is fenced. The house is surrounded by extensive, lovely gardens, mature olive trees, fruit trees and an organic vegetable garden. Guests are welcome to use fruit, vegetables and herbs when available.
Coast/Beach
Although Umbria is some distance from the coast, there are beaches and water sport activities at nearby Lake Trasimeno, as well as ferry trips to the islands in the lake.
Special interest holidays
Guests at La Pietra can request cooking lessons and / or splendid typical Umbrian feasts provided by the cooks of the Amore Sapore team. These meals are often described as the highlight of the stay. Bookings need to be made in advance. We also arrange a wide variety of art, artisan and gastronomy tours.
Travel
The nearest airport is Perugia, only 30 minutes drive from the house, which is served by Ryanair from Stansted. Other airports within around 2 hours' drive are Forli, Rome Ciampino, Rome Fiumicino, Pisa, Florence, and Ancona. A car is essential for exploring the area, although Rome and Florence are an easy day trip by train.
Distances
There are several small villages within 10 minutes by car and the nearest full-service town, Umbertide, is 20 minutes by car. Cortona, Arezzo, Sansepolcro, Gubbio, Spoleto, Spello, Assisi, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza, Perugia and Siena are all within easy reach of 30 mins drive.
