Further details
Castelsardo a charming small medieval town situated in the North West of Sardinia. The historic centre is a bit of a climb but well worth it. Take the scenic walk around the castle walls leading up to the cathedral. From here you can enjoy some wonderful views across the bay of Asinara. The castle was built by the Doria family in the 12th century, close by you can see the 16th century church of Santa Maria and the bell tower of the Cathedral of Sant’Antonio Abate. The town itself is well known for basket weaving quite often when you are wondering around the little lanes you will find the locals sitting on their doorsteps producing their craft. If you want to get a further insight into basket weaving you can visit the museum which is located within the castle. The town has ample restaurants, cafes/bars, hotels and supermarkets both in the historic centre and the newer areas. It has its own small beach but there are more extensive beaches in Lu Bagnu around 2 minutes by car. Little English is spoken here and some of the restaurants menus are only in Italian. Therefore a phrase book is recommended, even if you only want to find out what you are eating! Although not essential a car is recommend as Castelsardo is great base to explore this beautiful island. Within easy driving distance you can visit Isola Rossa, Elephant Rock, Capo Caccia, Stintino with the absolutely stunning beach of “ La Pelosa”, crystal clear water and fine white sand. If you are staying in Sardinia a little longer why not try a day trip to Corsica, ferries leave from Santa Teresa di Gallura. During the summer months the town has many processions and concerts. However, the most famous is the Lunissanti which takes place during Easter weekend which involves processions and finishing with an evening torchlight parade. The town is also enchanting during Christmas and New Year with concerts, parades in medieval costume ending in a wonderful firework display on New Years Eve.

John & Alison (2008) - Definitely one of the best self catering apartments we have stayed in ever. Your attention to detail was for more than we expected – Fabulous terrace with lovely furniture and views – kitchen well stocked with excellent saucepans etc. We were not expecting a good balance of DVD’s to choose from either. Brilliant!
Chris & Julie (April 2008) - What a fantastic week we’ve had. Apartment great – thanks for all the little extras – especially the wine, water and milk. Started to chill with the 1st glass of wine! Much appreciated. The weather has been super – Stintino is a must – never seen such turquoise seas – beautiful. Enjoyed Isola Rossa, Santa Teresa lovely to but a bit more touristy. Castelsardo – well what a lovely place with its superb harbour – we could only look with envy at the beautiful boats.
Sandra (2008) - Thank you both so very much, we had a wonderful time and appreciate all the travel recommendations you provided.
