The villa 'Giovannarolla' and attached Trullo (estimated to be several hundred years old) is set in 2 acres of land surrounded by olive trees in peaceful, but not isolated, countryside only 6kms from Ostuni, known as the 'white city'. Boasting an 11m x 5m swimming pool, shady veranda, large patio area, pizza oven and barbecue, it is perfect for outdoor living. Less than 20 minutes drive from beautiful, unspoilt beaches and within easy reach of the famous Trulli town of Alborobello (a UNESCO World Heritage site), Cisternino in the Itrea valley, the wonderful Baroque town of Lecce, and many other 'must see' places.

Changeover day
All bookings are from Saturday to Saturday. Off peak bookings are subject to some flexibility. Check in times are after 4pm on day of arrival and check out time is 11am on day of departure.

Notes on accommodation
Large parking area at front of property. Dry stone walls surround the property and main gates can be closed to ensure safety of children. Narrow country lane passes the property accessed mainly only by neighbours vehicles. Central heating is installed for the out of season visitors and room fans are available for the hotter days. Mosquito nets are fitted over all beds.
Accessibility
Accommodation is one level and the large patio and general access areas are flat (one small 2" step on patio) but there are two steps to the villa which would not, therefore, be suitable for wheelchairs.
Outside
Most of the land (approx 2 acres) beyond access areas is natural and rocky, surrounded by up to 50 olive trees, figs and prickly pears, but the level paved patio is approx 20 meters square (plenty of space for sun worshippers) with a 11m x5m pool. The pool is approx 1.2 meters deep over 50% of its area and up to 2 meters deep in the other 50%. Note, pool is not fenced so children should be supervised at all times but it is adjacent to and in full view from the veranda and villa.
An outdoor dining table and chairs, sunbeds, pizza oven and barbecue are all provided for those who enjoy outdoor living. A 10m x 3m veranda is outside the living room door so that you can get relief from the hot sun but still enjoy the outdoors.
Coast/Beach
Nearest beaches at Pilone (several miles of unspoilt, sandy, coastline) are only 15/20 mins drive away but there are many more only a short distance further. Many beaches are rocky inlets (ideal for snorkeling or fishing) but there are also many long sandy beaches for sun bathers and swimmers and several smaller coves, safe and ideal for young children.
Travel
Bari airport is approx 1hour 15 minutes drive but Brindisi airport is only about 40mins away. Use of a car is essential to see all that Puglia offers.
Distances
Giovannorolla is approx 6kms from Ostuni, a lively, medieval town, very popular with visitors to Puglia with its white buildings, narrow streets and fantastic sea views. Numerous and varied restaurants, bars and cafes.
Less than an hour away is Alborobello (town of around 1000 trulli) a UNESCO World Heritage site. Even closer are the medieval towns of Cisternino, Ceglie Messapica, Martina Franca, and Locorotondo. An hour's drive away is the Baroch town of Lecce in the wine region of Salento.
Further details
Ostuni has many supermarkets, the nearest is about 5kms away, and shops, banks, cash machines, etc as well as restaurants serving local specialities based on local produce, fresh and in season. Orrechietta (little ears) is the local pasta speciality. There are many cafes and bars so that evenings are lively but very civilised. Young people in this part of Italy tend, in the main, to be able to have fun without annoyance to others. Eating out is for all the family. There are markets to be found almost every day in a town nearby but Saturday is Ostuni's day. A huge market selling everything from locally grown food to shoes and clothing to furniture. Something for everyone. Large Hypermarkets like Auchan, Conforama, and Carrefour are also reachable by car, Auchan is about 40 mins drive away. Local food is very simple, made from local, in season, produce, so forget what you eat at home and let the locals feed you their way. You won't be disappointed. Pugliese wines such as Primitivo and Negroamara are becoming increasingly popular and should not be missed.
Booking notes
Your telephoned or emailed booking will be held for 7 days pending receipt of a 25% of total amount, non-returnable deposit whereupon the booking will be confirmed. Non-receipt of this deposit in 7 days will result in automatic release of the booking. The balance must be paid at least 8 weeks prior to the commencement of your rental period. A refundable security deposit of £250 should also be paid 8 weeks before start date.

About the owner
When my husband and I retired, about 5 years ago, we bought this property as a holiday home for us, our children, and grandchildren to enjoy. From a child growing up in South Africa I always dreamt of Italy, and later of retiring there, where I could spend my time eating fresh pasta and sipping red wine. We wanted a place that was genuinely, naturally, Italian. We wanted to feel the "Italian experience". We were not disappointed, when the dream became reality, with the villa or the Ostuni area or the people of Ostuni, including our lovely neighbours.
