Villa Tranquilla lies on the edge of Lake Arvo in Lorica, nestling among the mountains of Calabria in the Sila National Park. The lake is host to fishermen, canoeists and dinghy users lazily floating on its waters. The countryside changes with the seasons, in Spring, vibrant yellow, red and blue fields surround the area; in Summer the area is kissed by the radiant sun; in Autumn the trees turn gold, red and copper and in Winter, snow covers the mountains when skiing becomes the favourite pastime. A little piece of heaven in this tranquil area of Calabria. In the village people quietly go about their business. Restaurants welcome everyone through their doors to taste their home made pasta with delicious, succulent sauces. The delicatessen owner, baker and butcher are eager to help. The people are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. 4 skiing areas within 20 min drive - nearest one 5 mins drive to ski lift. Nearest village 2 mins walk.

Accessibility
There is a ramp from the roadside up to the property. There are two extremely comfortable double sofa beds as well as full shower/toilet facilities on the ground floor. A mobility scooter is available to rent. Please enquire when booking.
Outside
Large outside terrace to front and side of property with 4 garden loungers, large outside table and 6 chairs with cushions, sun awning to side of property plus sun umbrella with stand. On edge of lake with 240km of forest walks in the area. Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts just over an hour drive away.
Coast/Beach
Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts just over 1 hour drive.
West coast - Paola, Amentea - grey gritty sand, blue, blue waters.
East Coast - Capo Rizzuto, Le Castella - orange sand, calm clear waters.
Skiing
4 skiing areas within 20 min drive - nearest one 5 mins drive to ski lift. Cross country skiing trails 10 min drive. Bobsleigh.
Skiing in Lorica - 2 red runs and run back to car park. nursery slopes by car park. Ski/boot hire - €17-20 daily Weekly pass availbable. Lift tickets €2 to get up the mountain and €1 for every run.
Skiing in Camigliatello a bigger area 1 blue 1 red longer runs - again like Lorica very picturesque runs. Skiing also in nearby Palumbo.
Travel
Fly to Lamezia airport direct with Monarch and Ryanair from April to October (check their websites for exact dates) or via Rome, Milan, Naples or Pisa. Lamezia airport to Lorica 1 hour 15 mins. Car hire not essential but recommended. There is a local taxi/minibus who can collect from the airport and take on any trips required once in the area but this can work out very expensive.
Distances
Nearest village 2 mins walk. Next nearest towns are San Giovanni in Fiore and Camigliatello, both a 20-30 min drive. Nearest large supermarket is Eurospar in San Giovani. Large university town Cosenza 1 hour. Crotone 1 hour. Catanzaro 1 hour. Sicily 4 hours.
Further details
Within the village there are several restaurants and coffee bars, small supermarkets, delicatessens, baker, butcher, post office and gift shops. San Giovani has lots of restaurants, supermarkets and a variety of shops. Cosenza has very large shopping malls and also small traditional Italian shops.
Artist's Paradise. Views and scenery to delight and tantalise any painter.
Walkers: 240km signposted walks within the Sila National Park.

£50 per head deposit on booking (non refundable) Balance due 28 days before holiday commencement date plus £100 damage deposit (refundable on return if no damage / breakages). Villa Tranquilla is peacful & tranquil, with stunning views of the lake-a little piece of heaven. In August the town buzzes with street market stalls and lively bars/cafes. In Spring & Autumn peace reigns & one can take quiet walks into the forests & around the lake or drive off to the local towns or coasts. Views from mountain tops are spectacular & the drive to the coast-in 3 directions-across mountain ranges is breathtaking. I highly recommend this villa & the area & I will certainly be going again. Feb 08 Wonderful snow. Skiing in Lorica-2 red runs & run back to car park. Nursery slopes by car park-instruction in Italian & sign language! Wrap up warmly to go up mountain-20mins. Ski/boot hire daily €17/20. Lift tickets €2 to go up & €1 for every run. Day pass available. Skiing also in Camigliatello - 1 blue/1 red-longer runs. Wonderful holiday in a superb location in a friendly,charming & unspoilt part of Italy. We will return Mike & Helen Watson.
