B&B 'Castagni d'Oro': 2 Guest Rooms

The 2 guest rooms are comfortably furnished with double beds with quality linen, bedside tables with lights, clothes hanging units, chests of drawers and tables and chairs. There are tea and coffee making facilities and British satellite TV in the rooms. 1 room has a double bed and the other has twin beds that can be fastened together. Both rooms have modern en-suites with shower, toilet, washbasin, luxury towels and hairdryers.

Notes on accommodation
All rooms in the villa have central heating and there is a double sided woodburning fireplace on the ground floor, lit all through winter. Other services are available on request, such as packed lunches, occasional evening meals, laundry service and transport to and from towns and airport.
There is a secure locked garage for storage of bikes and ski equipment. We do not have facilities for very young children and smoking is only permitted outside.

Accessibility
The house has its own private cobbled driveway with parking for three cars.

Outside
The paved sun-trap patio with table and chairs offers a relaxing spot to sit and enjoy a cooling drink, whilst the flat, level garden with tree shade and gazebo is the perfect place to sun-bathe or enjoy an evening barbecue.
The garden has spectacular views up into the mountains and down into the Lima valley.

Coast/Beach
An hour's drive takes you to the Versilian coast, with wonderful seaside towns such as Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi. Beautiful golden sandy beaches, wide avenues with Art Deco buildings, cafes and shops, marinas full of boats and all with the towering Apuan Alpes as a backdrop.

Skiing
We are only 45 minutes drive from Abetone, the largest ski centre in Tuscany, offering dozens of slopes for all abilities served by cable cars and ski lifts. There are also several ski schools and all the usual shops and amenities expected in a popular ski resort.

Travel
The nearest airport is Pisa, around 40 miles away and less than an hour's drive. Car hire is recommended to be able to enjoy the many attractions that the area has to offer, although we can take you to airport or station. There is a train station in Bagni di Lucca with services to Lucca, Pisa and Florence. We can arrange drop-off and collection at the station if necessary.

Distances
Brandeglio is a 15 minutes drive from the ancient spa-town of Bagni di Lucca. The medieval city of Lucca is 30km away, taking 30 minutes by car, Pisa and Viareggio are an hour, and Florence takes an hour and a half. Going by train, add an hour or two more.

Further details
Bagni di Lucca is situated along the river Lima and has a selection of shops, bars and restaurants. There have been thermal baths here since Roman times and the very first Casino in Europe was built here. Many famous English poets such as Shelley, Keats and Byron had connections with Bagni di Lucca and the region.

The pretty hill-town of Barga, long associated with Scotland, is only 30 minutes away along the Garfagnana valley, as are the fantastic caverns of the Grotto del Vento and the mystical canyon, the Orrido di Botri.

If you like a more active holiday, this whole area is a paradise for walkers and cyclists, with established routes and points of interest. There are tennis courts offering coaching, public swimming baths and a thermal spa in Bagni di Lucca, horse-riding nearby and even canoeing in the fast flowing rivers. Abetone ski resort is only a 45 minutes drive up into the dramatic Apennine mountains, but keep on going and famous cities such as historic Bologna and trendy Modena, the home of Ferrari, are within a further couple of hours.

The historic city Lucca is only 30km from Brandeglio. This well preserved Medieval town sits inside defensive walls which survived the centuries completely intact. You can hire bikes to cycle around the walls and city. There are piazzas, ancient churches, shops and markets, and a Roman ampitheatre that has been turned into a famous piazza.

Pisa, with its famous leaning tower and wide river is less than a hour's drive away and only 15 minutes from the glamorous bustling seaport of Livorno. Florence makes a great day out taking 1.5 hours by car or 2 by train.
