Vallo di Nera has been designated one of the most beautiful hilltop villages in the whole of Italy. Il Nascondiglio - the Hideaway - is a recently renovated terraced house over 3 floors in the heart of this 12th century Umbrian village. With the living, dining and modern kitchen area on the ground floor, the shower room and single on the first floor and double bedroom on the second it is an ideal location for Italophiles who would like to explore the region. Vallo di Nera is entirely surrounded by walls, with towers and gateways dating from the feudal rule of Corrado di Spoleto. It is within easy access of Spoleto, Norcia, Castelluccio and the Monte Sibillini National Park. Renaissance frescoes abound in the small churches throughout the valley and you can combine hill walks to nearby villages with the exploration of these hidden treasures. Local village festivals filled with music, dance and delicious local Umbrian food take place throughout the Valnerina in the summer.

Changeover day
Although the usual changeover day is Saturday we are flexible and you can arrive any time after 4.00pm.

Bedroom 1 on second floor with double bed. A light room with dormer window and sloping roof with wooden beams. Fan, mosquito net and selection of books provided.

Well equipped kitchen with gas 4-ring hob and fridge with freezer compartment. |

Washing machine is on the first floor tucked under the stairs to the second floor. |

The living, dining and kitchen area comprises a 2 seater sofa and one Poang armchair with dining table and 4 chairs, with a fireplace in the corner. Italian TV stations and radio. |
Cleaning/towels/

Towels and linen are included and changed once a week. The house will be cleaned once a week, and there is a final cleaning charge of £20. |
Notes on accommodation
There is a fan in each bedroom and electric heaters available however it is unlikely you'll need either. Il Nascondiglio is not really suitable for children under approx 8 years.

Accessibility
Due to the steepness of the stairs to the top bedroom Il Nascondiglio is not accessible for anyone with impaired mobility.
Outside
There are places to sit outside just a few steps from the front door as well as throughout the village where you can enjoy the sunshine, a glass of wine, read or watch the world go by. There are two swimming pools - one in Scheggino and another in an agriturismo nearby with a fantastic view over the valley, both just 10 minutes' drive away.
Coast/Beach
The beach is approx a 90 minute drive away either to the west in Tuscany or the east in Le Marche.
Travel
The nearest airport is Perugia (a 40 minute drive), Ciampino, Rome (approx 1 hour 45 mins) and Ancona (approx 2 hours). I would say that the use of a car is essential as although there is some public transport to and from Vallo di Nera it is minimal. There is a train station in Spoleto and it is possible to rent a car in the town.

Further details
There will be a complimentary welcome basket awaiting you upon arrival with a bottle of red and white wine, bread, cheese, tomatoes, coffee and milk all provided by the bottega (local shop) which is 75m from the front door. Apart from all the staples the bottega has a great selection of typical produce from the surrounding area. Cacio Re, a restaurant at the edge of the village is to be recommended and renowned for its traditional and more innovative dishes. Spoleto provides all the amenities you would expect in a historic, cultural centre.
Booking notes
A 40% deposit is payable upon booking with the remaining 60% due 8 weeks before departure. Once full payment is received a key will be sent to you three weeks before departure so that you can arrive at your leisure after 4.00pm.
