Casa Giovanni's dining room
|
|
Casa Giovanni is part of a beautiful hamlet with medieval origins which was restored with great love and imagination by the late international sculptor Fiore de Henriquez. The house, on two floors, is in front of and below the hamlet and therefore very private. You are in a world of your own and can forget there is anyone else around, or not - as you wish. The hamlet's commanding hillside position gives it stunning panoramic views over the valley to the sea beyond. Surrounded by terraces of olive groves, and with orange and lemon trees, bougainvilliea, jasmin and others covering the stone walls, Peralta seems like paradise. Fiore’s sculpture (which can be seen all through the hamlet), and the manner in which she designed and restored Peralta, give it very special character and atmosphere. Situated in the foothills of the Alpi Apuane, the walks through the hills, covered with chestnut trees and olive groves, are numerous. The wild flowers in Spring are a true delight.

Travel
Airports: Pisa is 35 km and takes 45 mins. Genoa is approx. 1hr45mins. Bologna 2 hours. Train Station is Viareggio, on the main line from Genoa to Rome. Ferry leaves from Livorno (2 hours from Peralta) for Corsica Motorway is just 20 minutes from Peralta. The A12 Genoa/Livorno and A11 Genoa/Florence. Our exit for both is Viareggio. Car hire is recommended - preferably a smallish car as access up our hill is very narrow. Please visit our website for description of access.
Distances
The A12 (Genoa/Livorno) and A11 (Lucca/Florence) motorways are only 20 minutes away, making Florence a one hour drive, and Siena and southern Tuscany an easy day's outing. Lucca is 22km (35mins), the beaches are 20-30 mins away. Cinque Terre takes just under an hour, and Carrara and the marble quarries a bit less. The market town of Camaiore is only 10 minutes down the hill by car and the closest shops even less. There are many inexpensive, excellent restaurants closeby.
Further details
Sightseeing is easy from Peralta as we are only about 20 minutes from the motorway, making Florence only an hour away. The lovely walled town of Lucca is a forty minute drive. Northern Tuscany (Versilia) is full of interesting places to visit and we have details at Peralta and can help you plan your trips. The shopping around us is legendary (Lucca, Forte dei Marmi, Florence). We are lucky to be only 45 minutes from Pisa airport. Ryanair, Easyjet, Thomsonfly and all the major airlines fly there. Peralta is very accessible and yet feels completely 'away from it all'. The house is a wonderful place to spend the Christmas and New Year break. Particularly on New Year's Eve when the whole valley is alight with firework displays at midnight. Every house in the hills seems to have their own incredible fireworks and Casa Giovanni and Peralta's commanding position over the valley reminds one of being in an amphitheatre. It is a wonderful sight and quite an experience.
