Coast/Beach
The Adriatic coast is 30 mins drive away; north of Pescara is continuous sandy beaches for 100km, but very busy in the summer and you will need to pay for a parasol in some areas. South of Pescara the coast is more varied, from the shady pine woods immediately outside Pescara to the wilder stretches and cliffs further south. The Tremiti Islands are a mere hour away by hydro-foil and access to Croatia is possible via many ferries from Pescara.

Golf
There are 2 golf courses (Pescara and Chieti) within 45 mins drive from the house.

Skiing
There are 2 mountain ranges in sight of Penne: the Maiella and the Gran Sasso. The Majella has the ski slopes and schools at Passo Lanciano/Majeletta, about 45 mins drive away; alternately, there is Rocarrasso (about 80 mins drive) where there are 10 slopes and all skiing abilities are catered for.

Travel
The nearest airport is Pescara, which is about 40 mins drive. From the UK, flights to Pescara are run by Ryanair from Stansted. Public transport is good, cheap, and regular (there is a bus service into town that stops at the end of our road), but if you are using Penne as a central base to see the Abruzzo you will probably want to hire a car at the airport. It is also possible to fly to Ancona or Rome and drive over the Appenines to Penne, around 2-3 hours on the motorway.

Distances
Penne is quite central to the Abruzzo and in easy driving distance of the capital, Pescara, the coast, and the mountains. The mountains include the many national parks and a great variety of wildlife, including bears. This is an ideal location for anyone who loves wildlife, bird watching, and the countryside and rock climbing. Penne is also a busy town with a lot going on - it even has an Olympic-scale swimming pool, climbing walls, and a variety of excellent sports facilities just 2 mins away.

Further details
The closest restaurant is 2 mins walk away from the house and there is another 4 within 5 mins walk. Penne has banks, supermarkets (the nearest is a 5 min walk) and internet cafes, as well as a cathedral and archaeological museum. There is also a market every Saturday. There are numerous festivals throughout the year which largely focus on sampling the excellent food and drink local to the area.

Booking notes
Reservations can be made with a non-refundable 25% deposit. The balance must be received at least 14 days before arrival.
