The House of Camellia dates back to the early 18th century and has been newly restored maintaining the original lava stonework and wood-beamed ceilings, adding high quality of fittings, traditional furniture and Caltagirone tiles in typical Sicilian style. The farmhouse is set in a large estate of citrus groves, in a very peaceful position with Europe's highest active volcano in the background and offers a warm and cosy welcome, rural peace, sensational views of Etna. A perfect location from which to visit Taormina, M. Etna's Natural Park, enjoing the nice beaches nearby. It's also possible to go for walks on the property and the nearby countryside, enjoing the sun of Sicily, the stunning and peaceful setting. This lovely farmhouse is ideal for a couple, a family or a group of friends who want to sample rural Sicilian life, being close to all the sights and comforts. Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in euros. No extra charges of any kind. For groups of 6-7 persons we add 80 euros to the 4-5 persons rental fee. Breakages deposit of 100 euros fully refunded on departure assuming no damage or breakages have occurred.
Changeover day
The preferred changeover day is Saturday but it can be arranged differently in some periods. Contact the owners about this.

The bedrooms are on the left and on the right of the living room and open onto the terrace. We can add a bed for the 7th person. |

Notes on accommodation
The owners, who live in a villa nearby, but with a completely separated access, will be there to guarantee a warm welcome, help and advise. They will meet you at the motorway exit "Giarre" to avoid any problem in finding the house. Cinzia speaks English.
Note that the thickness of the walls means that, like most traditional Sicilian houses, the House of Camellia is fresh inside even with hot temperatures outside; there are electric heaters in every room in winter.

We can arrange for you cooking classes in a old XIX cent. Sicilian house, horse riding on the beach and the river Alcantara, guided walkings in Mt Etna Natural Park as well as guided tours.

Catania airport 35km. Palermo airport 2 and a half hours drive.
Car hire is essential.
Distances
Between Catania and Taormina, the farmhouse is easy to reach, being at 3 km from the motorway exit Giarre and at 1km from the main national road 114. Also Syracuse, the Barroque towns of the Noto valley, the Roman Villa of Piazza Armerina, Messina, the Eolian Islands are all comfortably reachable for a day trip.

Taormina 25 km (15 min drive).
Giarre with all kinds of shops 5km.
Acireale with all kind of shops 7km.

"This restored farmhouse lived up to our expectations completely. The old family farmhouse has been restored using good quality fittings and furniture in the traditional Sicilian style, all done in very good taste. Situated inside its own plot of land, the house is surrounded by lemon trees. From the roof there is a nice view of M.Etna & the surrounding lemon trees that cover the land. The house is 25 min drive from Taormina and an hour from Syracuse. It is very easy to access the motorway at Giarre. I would suggest this house would be ideal for anyone who wants to get away from it all. We very much enjoyed our peace & quiet in the evenings and our BBQs.
