Further details
The Trulli are one of the most extraordinary examples of italian architecture, renowned all over the world for their beauty and simplicity. They have been built since prehistory, when they still were simple huts made of round stone, then they evolved, absorbing characteristics of other cultures. The original shape developped with hearth and windows, then the plan changed from the round shape to the square one and various blocks started to join together, forming complete appartments. Some changes were made in order to adapt them to domestic usage; niches and shelves gained from the thickness of the walls, the external and internal walls and the top part of the conical roof were plastered. The trulli of Alberobello have been declared world heritage by UNESCO.
