Located 100m from the sea, back from the cliff edge with access to rocky beach via steep steps and minutes away from several glorious sandy beaches. Santa Maria is a tranquil area 10 minutes driving time from the Medieval town of Bosa and less than 5 minutes from Porto Alabe. When you arrive in Alghero airport it is an hours drive south along a breathtaking coastal view road that reminds us of Route 1 California. During your stay you can watch the sun set directly ahead of you over the sea from the patio. There are garden areas and you feel you have plenty of room to move around and lots of shade should you need it, both to the front and rear of the house. In season, restaurants and bars are numerous and within walking distance or a few minutes drive away. For golfing enthusiasts the Arena golf and country club is 45 minutes away in Oristano and built by the renowned architect Von Hagge. The area is a dream for cyclists and ramblers to discover. Notes on accommodation
The property is a detached house with surrounding garden and patio in a quiet location. It has the most breathtaking views of the sea and coastline. There is an outdoor shower for your conveniance. Out of season during winter months there is a wood fire-place. The house has been built with plenty of shade for the hot summer months. You don't feel, in any way, crowded out by other houses or apartments.

Accessibility
Access for disabled people is very good as there is adequate parking in the house for up to two/three cars with no stairs required to enter the house. Access to the patio and veranda areas is easy. To the side of the house in order to gain access to the gardens and the outside shower you would need to go down stairs. Disabled access to the sandy beach which is 10 minutes. But access to the rocky beach at the end of the road is unsuitable for small children and those with mobility problems.

Outside
Outdoor furniture includes large table, extendable to eight persons. 2 sun loungers with cushions and 4 fully reclining chairs. 4 additional garden chairs. One large patio part shaded with a cane gazebo. Garden to the rear and side of the house. Verandas around majority of house. Outside shower. From May 2009 an above ground 7.4 x 4 x 1.3 metre pool will be available this will include an extended Patio area and outside kitchen Work starts on November 2008 and the progress will be updated on our web site.

Coast/Beach
Rocky beach 5 minutes down steep mountain stairs. Sandy beach less than 15 minutes walk. Numerous other beaches and coves within a 10 mile stretch of coastline. Easily accessible by car and many by foot. Nice combination of beaches suiting safety conscious as well as more challenging beaches. In autumn the area is regarded as a good surfing beach.

Golf
The closest major golf course is situated 45 minutes South in Oristano and is called the Arenas golf and country club.

Travel
Ryanair fly to Alghero airport and is 48 km from the house and takes just under an hour to get to. Sassari and Oristano, major cities are both less than an hour away. Car hire is essential unless you intend to cycle.

Distances
The nearest villages are Magomadas and Tresnuraghes on the top of the hillside. Several villages are found on the mountainside and are very beautiful and welcoming. There is a Tuscan feel to the moutainside views, with vineyards that grow much loved Malvasia wine. Bosa the sea town is close by. Oristano has extraoridnary Roman/Etruscan ramins. The island is full of bronze age sites.

Further details
Local shops and bars are within walking distance (less than 10 minutes walk). The nearest cash point and bank is in Tresnuraghes, (10 minutes drive). Large stores can be found in Sassari and Oristano all less than an hour away. The best place to shop for fresh seafood and local produce is Bosa. In season there are numerious pizzerias and restaurants open as well 'agrituristici' that provide you with local food at very reasonable prices.
The beaches and blue sea cannot be underestimated. This is a very clean and unpolluted area. Bosa itself was twice voted the cleanest beach in Italy in recent years.
Bosa is the main fishing port town of approximately 5000 inhabitants and has many things to offer inc scuba diving, boat trips, canoe and bicycle hire, many shops and restaurants, a castle, marina and beach area to name but a few. If walking is your hobby you have access to open fields and countryside with many additional walks available from all around the area. It is a cyclers paradise.

Was the villa 'as described'? Well, it seemed better than that, really! The Holiday Rentals site on its own doesn’t quite do this villa justice, somehow. The property owners’ site is much more comprehensive (and has more pictures), so do take the time out to have a look.
It was perfectly clean and well-maintained, and had those little touches (DVD’s, books, games, etc.) that made it feel like someone’s home rather than just a faceless holiday let.
The directions were extensive and accurate (especially useful were the pictures of each stage), and the information and tips in our holiday pack were invaluable. The views from the patio really can’t be described adequately here.
