Owner profile

About the owner
Filippo and I moved to Marche at the end of 2005 although we had been planning to do so for about five years. Filippo was born in Puglia but had lived in the UK since he was a child. He felt that he would like to try life in Italy and I wasn't averse to having a go too! Filippo is very keen on socialising with the locals and in fact knows most people around from his frequent visits to the bar. He is now totally immersed in country living- harvesting grapes and olives, helping make wine, oil, sausages and salami. I decided to continue working and discovered the Italian Air Force Language School where I teach English. We have a friendly dog called Alfie who likes guests and is good with children.

Year purchased: 2002

Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
Although we looked at a number of houses, we chose the first one that we had seen because of its position which is beautiful and its proximity to the sea which gives a wonderful breeze, two villages and the airport. The house was completely derelict so we decided to knock it down and rebuild using the original bricks and roof tiles. This area is noted for its wine and and there are nine vineyards in Morro D'Alba which can be visited to sample the wine. Marche is not at all commercialised, although there is a great deal to see and do, the countryside is lovely and the beaches are great. There is a fantastic rock festival at Senigallia for 2 weeks in August with free concerts every night. The restaurants are still good value too and the Marchigiani are very kind and genuine people.

Unique benefits of the property
San Felice is midway between 2 villages where there are restaurants, bars, banks and shops- everything you might need in fact. Places of interest include Jesi, Sengallia, the Conero National Park and the Frasassi Caves which are the largest underground caves in Europe. Ancona Airport is 20 minutes away and Rimini an hour. The house is tastefully furnished- we think-, the bedrooms are large, the bathrooms are stunning and Filippo cooks a wicked breakfast - evidently the best in Italy according to some. Even the Italians love them! We have a beautiful pergola and it's heaven to sit there with an aperitivo in the cool of the evening and watch the shooting stars and the fireflies.
