Changeover day
Changeover day is flexible depending on availability.
Arrival after 3pm and departure before 10am is preferred but we are happy to make arrangements outside these times again depending on availability.

Appartamento del Sole (1 Bedroom, Sleeps 4)

A first floor apartment with private entrance, the accommodation comprises: Double bedroom. Bathroom with shower, wc, bidet and washbasin. Kitchen with two ring hob, sink, kettle, fridge with icebox, small table and 4 chairs. Open plan lounge with sofabed and balcony enjoying beautiful views.

Notes on accommodation
Il Sole provides comfortable, spacious accommodation and has been tastefully decorated and modernised throughout with gas central heating. The apartment is accessible via it's own separate entrance at the side of the main house, up some steps. There is a door in the apartment bedroom which opens into the main house and is lockable from both sides. This allows the apartment to be part of the main house on the first floor or rented separately for small parties of upto four.
In the main house we have provided a cot, highchair, UV playpen and portable stairgate for younger guests and there are a few toys, colouring pens and paper and a Playstation with games to keep them entertained. All linen and towels are provided.

Accessibility
We are sorry but due to the location of the property Il Sole is unsuitable for wheelchair users or those with mobility problems.

Outside
Il Sole's garden is terraced with vines and an orchard of fig, cherry, pear and apple trees with about one hectare of steep forest behind the house to explore. There are two patios which enjoy sun all day and stunning views. Patio tables, chairs, sunloungers, a barbeque and beach towels for use outside have all been provided. Please note that the garden is typically rural, is quite steep and generally unlandscaped with some old outbuildings. We would advise the elderly, infirm or very young to take care.

Coast/Beach
The beautiful Versilian Riviera is less than an hour's drive. Versilia is renowned for it's beautiful, wide, sandy beaches against the backdrop of the magnificent Apuan Alps.
The world heritage site Cinque Terre is just over an hour's drive away. Five pituresque villages strung along a short stretch of cliffs in Liguria are accessible by train, on foot or by bus.
La Spezia offers the beautiful, chic coastal towns of Portovenere and Lerici less than an hour's drive away.

Skiing
The nearest ski resort, Cerreto Laghi is about forty minutes away by car. Located around a glacial Apennine lake which dates back to the Ice Age, at an altitude of 1344m, you will find slopes for children, beginners and experts, some of which are host to the National Italian Skiing Championships. There is a vast array of shops, restaurants and hotels and a large modern ice rink with capacity for 3,000 skaters. Five chair lifts, three cable lifts. 20 km of ski runs. 13km of cross country skiing.

Travel
1 hour 20 minutes from Pisa and Parma airports. 1 hour 40 minutes from Genoa. 12 hour drive from Calais. Try Ryanair, Easyjet, Flybe or BA for cheap flights. Car hire from the airport is essential although the train and bus links (there is a bus stop outside the house) offer many day trips including Pisa, Florence and Lucca if you fancy a rest from the windy roads.

Piazza al Serchio has a petrol station, supermarket, post office, restaurants, shops and train station 20 minutes away.

Further details
The area is one of outstanding natural, unspoilt beauty with many regional parks and nature reserves to explore. You can enjoy the slower and very relaxing pace of life in Metra or perhaps follow more energetic pursuits such as mountain or road biking, hiking, climbing and horse riding. Road and mountain biking are very popular in the area. The Giro d'Italia (the major Italian bike race) regularly passes by Il Sole's front door. In 2007 four days of the race are accessible in under one hour's drive.
There are many places of interest only a stones throw away including thermal spas, caves, lakes and museums. To ensure you make the most of your holiday we have many resources available at Il Sole including information on local restaurants, places to visit, maps of cycling and walking routes, tourist information leaflets and books about the area.

Booking notes
Please telephone or e-mail to confirm availability and cost. Discounts are available for short breaks and parties of six or less. A completed booking form and 25% deposit is required to secure booking. Balance payable six weeks before departure along with a £100 breakages deposit which is refundable.
