The Village of Palaia
The Village of Palaia

Palaia is 40 minutes by car from Pisa airport. It is a tranquil but thriving village that welcomes tourism but appears untouched by it. It has a bank with cash point, post office, shops for general provisions, petrol station, a few bars and restaurants and tourist information in the town hall. There is a supermarket in Forcoli which is a larger village nearby. Peti Rosso restaurant in the village is good. There is an open-air pizzeria in Colleoli, a village nearby. Swimming pools can be found in Peccioli, Castelfalfi and Pontedera, all 20 minutes by car. There is also a health spa in Casciana Terme. We recommend that you hire a car for your stay, however we would suggest that trips to Florence and Pisa are more relaxing if undertaken on the train. Pontedara, the nearest town is on the main line to both destinations.

Guest comments
We enjoyed our stay in your lovely home in the interesting town of Palaia. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the terrace, looking out on the attractive views, dining at excellent local restaurants and relaxing in the comfort of the house itself. We enjoyed several day trips, although after driving in Pisa, those of us who went to Florence opted for the train! Margaret gave us a lovely welcome and was always willing to give advice on the area. AE North Somerset 2005
We stayed for a week at La Rocca and had a lovely, relaxing time. The house itself is in a great spot overlooking the village and the views from the bedroom and garden are stunning. The house is very comfortable but we spent most time eating, drinking and relaxing in the garden. The kitchen is well equipped but there was so much good Italian food available we did not need to use it much. The village is delightful and full of character. 2 minutes walk will get you to the local bars, restaurants and shops. TS Bristol 2006
