Celle dei Puccini, named after the famous composer Puccini, who lived the early years of his life here, is a small hamlet settling above the village of Diecimo, approximately 12km from the ancient walled city of Lucca. Celle, like so many Tuscan settlements, clings to the side of a hill overlooking valleys, hillsides and mountains with terraced vineyards and olive groves. In the foreground and beyond, wooded slopes and picturesque villages. Celle is a peaceful place and totally unspoiled; it retains its slow tempo and traditional way of life. It has been home for generations of Italian families who still cultivate the surrounding land. Access to Celle is by narrow, winding, asphalt road from Diecimo. There are excellent restaurants nearby, one in the village itself. The countryside surrounding Celle, is a delight and there are pleasant walks into the woods and across the hillside. The slopes are resplendent with wild flowers, seemingly at all seasons.

Coast/Beach
Viareggio is one of the most famous and traditional seaside resorts in Tuscany. The beaches, excellent cuisine, bustling bars and piano bars make it a favourite destination for Italians and foreigners alike. Founded as a fishing village in the 12th century, it is now an important port where prestigious yachts are built in its dockyards. Viareggio is sheltered by dense pine forests to the north and offers miles of beach establishments, bars, restaurants and shops along its coastline.
Skiing
Abetone is the most important ski resort of the centre of Italy. It is known and appreciated all over the world. Its various ski runs have been praised highly by great champions such as Zeno Colò, Celina Seghi and Vittorio Chierroni. The state wood is rich in firs, larches and pines and is crossed by paths This is also the starting point for a range of excursions, from the simple walks to trips to the mountains. The ski slopes are situated between four marvellous linked valleys: Val di Luce, Valle dello Scoltenna, Valle del Sestalone and Valle di Lima. These valleys form one of the most beautiful, famous and natural scenery of the Appennino.
Travel
By air it is an easy journey from UK to Pisa. It takes less than a couple of hours. Pisa airport is quite small and you pass through the formalities quickly. An alternative airport is Florence. British Airways, Ryanair, Thompson Air and Easy Jet all service Pisa on a regular basis and cheap flights are readily available.
From Pisa airport to Lucca is approx 25 mins by motorway with a further picturesque 25mins journey to Celle following the river and winding, asphalt road from Diecimo.
Distances
The whole area is rich in historic and cultural interest. The charming city of Lucca – approx 25 mins by car, retains elements of its age and history amid its many churches, imposing palaces and in the secluded squares one finds sophisticated shops and restaurants.
Florence by car - 1hr 15mins. The train makes it easily accessible from Lucca - recommended as parking can be tiresome. The Chianti area between Florence and Siena (2 hrs by car) is one of the most beautiful countryside in Italy.
Further details
There are no shops in Celle itself. It is however, not far by car to Diecimo where you can purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and there is a bakers - fresh bread and yummy cakes etc. There is also an internet cafe, a bank and a post office. f you want the supermarket, the big Esselunga and Carraforre are on the road to Lucca - 20 mins from Diecimo. There are numerous restaurants in the surrounding area - all very well priced and the local wine so inexpensive. There is one run by a local family in Celle itself, close to the Puccini museum, only 2 mins walk from your doorway, serving typical Tuscan food.

27th Oct 2006 - "A wonderful home in a wonderful village. Our stay was too short! We were blessed with the most amazing warm sunny weather, we definiately didn't need the rain jackets. It wasn't our 1st visit to the area and it won't be the last. If you decide to sell, can we have first refusal?!"
