Podera Collinella consists of privately owned, beautifully renovated apartments in Tuscan stone farm buildings. The character has been retained with chestnut beams, interior exposed stone and chestnut doors and shuttered windows. It is slightly elevated and so has wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, private gardens providing sun or shade with amazing views at sunrise and sunset. It is a small gated development of 13 apartments peacefully located 2.5 km from the road between San Gimignano and Volterra. The 'white' road is a private road lined with olive trees and Mediterranean bush, the renovated farm buildings are also gated, ensuring total privacy. Each apartment has it own private terrace with far reaching views, equipped with dining furniture and sunbeds. The interior furnishings are all of good quality. It is perfectly situated for a relaxing holiday yet with easy access to Tuscany's major attractions. Large shared pool 14 x 7 m.open May to September.

Notes on prices
The water, gas and electricity is included in the price in Summer. There is a gas allowance of 5 units but if central heating is used and more than 5 units used, gas is charged at 5 euros per unit. This is deducted form the damage deposit. The meter can be easily read in units in the condominium gardens.

Changeover day
Saturday changeover day . The housekeeper is on site on Saturdays . Vacation is by 10 am please and occupation after 3pm. Out of these hours keys are accessible in key safes at any time.

Collinella 12 is a beautiful semi-detached small villa with private garden on 3 sides. Upstairs is one double bedroom and a twin bedroom, a bathroom with washing machine. At ground floor is a double bedroom with access to west facing garden and separate shower room and wc. The kitchen/living room has a dishwasher and large fridge freezer. Kitchen units are chestnut with lovely granite worktops and sofa /chairs Italian leather. Terracotta tiled floors and chestnut beamed ceilings. There is a large south facing terrace with gazebo and dining furniture, offering wonderful uninterrupted views across rolling Tuscan hills. The covered west facing terrace offers dining in shade and privacy. The gardens are private all around the villa and there is a brick barbecue. The views are breathtaking, gardens have various fig, peach trees and Mediterranean bushes.
Although there are 3 bedroom we choose to let to groups of 4. You may use all 3 bedrooms or 2, please let us know at time of booking.

Collinella 3 is a beautiful, romantic one bedroom apartment, ground floor of a building of 4. This charming apt is spacious and benefits from 2 private gardens, a south facing terrace at the front and west facing terrace behind. Both have dining and garden furniture and have wonderful uninterrupted views across rolling hills. The chestnut kitchen is well equipped and has a dishwasher and large fridge/freezer. The living area has leather sofa bed and light oak furniture to compliment the terracotta tiled floors and chestnut beamed ceiling. The spacious bedroom has a king size oak bed with matching furniture and the chestnut shuttered door leads to the back garden. Floors throughout are tiled and the seperate bathroom has a shower, wc and bidet also a washing machine. Steps from the back garden lead to the shared pool 7m x 14m, regularly maintained. Olive, peach and fig trees are in the garden and passion flowers and wisteria climb up the shaded gazebo. Utilities, linen, towels included.

Podera Torrichi apt 6 is a beautiful 2 bedroom ground floor apt .The floors throughout are Italian terracotta and ceilings with chestnut beams. The master bedroom with en-suite has a large sitting area with sofa and table near the french door to garden. It has a king size light oak bed with matching chest of drawers and bedside table. The second bedroom has 3 foot light oak shaker style twin beds, space for a cot.The second bathroom has a washing machine a lovely travertine marble top, tiled floor and walls and beamed ceiling. The living room has comfortable leather furniture and the kitchen area has new oak kitchen with granite worktops. There is a large fridge freezer and a dishwasher. From the west facing terrace one can witness beautiful sunsets, the terrace is equipped with nice outdoor furniture and a dining table. The infinity pool has wonderful far reaching views and is equipped with sun beds and a covered gazebo.

 

Notes on accommodation
Podera Torrichi is newly renovated and has retained the charm of the Tuscan farm buildings they originally were. Great care and thought has gone into the renovation and natural and original materials used where possible. The walls are extremely thick so the rooms are cool in the Summer and the floors are terracotta tiles. All the furniture is of excellent quality and we have ensured that the beds are very comfortable. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. Gas central heating. Children are welcome, although please note that in Italy pools are not fenced. Cot and high chair available. Mosquito netting is at the windows. The beauty of Podera Torrichi is the charm of the buildings, grouped on a slight elevation. The views therefore are wonderful and one can see the snow capped mountains in winter as far as Pisa. The lights of Volterra 16km away are clearly visible from the front terraces. It is a place one can relax, yet access the main attractions of Tuscany.

Accessibility
The buildings are on a slight hill with gravel paths. Apt 6 is ground floor, but the pathways may make wheelchair use difficult. Steps to pool.
Podera Torrichi is situated 2km from the main road between San Gimignano and Volterra. It is a private, gated 'white' road, lined with olive trees and Mediterranean bush. The area is very unspoilt and peaceful with no public access. It is not allowed to tarmac the private roads in Italy, access to the apartments is along the original gravel farm track.

Coast/Beach
Cecina approx 50km.
Blue flag beach with lovely coves on the coast south of Volterra - Vada and Cecina. Bibbona is a lovely beach also on the wine route hugging the west coast.

Golf
Golf course approx 20 minutes.Castelfalfi Golf Club is situated near the ancient medieval hamlet of Castelfalfi, which is approximately 20 minutes away. It's the perfect place to play golf, during your holiday in Tuscany. Designed by Ing. Mancinelly, the Castelfalfi Golf Course, has been qualified as a challenging course. Castelfalfi is an 18 hole course and is 6.645 metres long with a Par 73.

Travel
Car hire essential. Budget flights from many UK airports to Pisa. Ryanair, easy Jet, Jet 2 and Thomsonfly- Pisa airport is a comfortable 1 hour drive approx 60km, on Fi-Pi-Li motorway. Florence airport a similar distance. Nearest railway station at Poggibonsi - 25 km. Nearest channel port at Livorno approx 1 hour. This is a renovated farm building hence in a very beautiful and rural location, at the end of a 3km private 'white' road.

Distances
Nearest village Castagno, 4km with shop and restaurant. San Gimignano 14km, the town of beautiful towers with many restaurants and historical buildings. Volterra, once the Etruscan capital, another walled medieval town is approx 15 km, with its colourful market and many restaurants and places of interest. Siena is approx 35 mins drive, full of atmosphere and fabulous bars and restaurants. The charming city of Florence is about one hours drive. Pisa is an hour drive and Lucca a further 15 min.

Further details
The farmhouse is perfectly located between the medieval towns of San Gimignano and Volterra, 15 to 20 minutes away. The former is renowned for its medieval towers, cobbled streets, beautiful buildings and a good choice of restaurants and cafes. Volterra, in the opposite direction is equally attractive, offering shopping, restaurants and bars as well as necesseties such as banks and pharmacies etc. Supermarkets are at Volterra and San Gimignano, and a local shop 3km at Castagno.There is a good supermarket on the way from Pisa, also a large hypermarket at Navacchio, just off the motorway close to the airport. This is a wonderful, peaceful area, perfect for relaxing, walking or biking, with several lovely towns easily accessible. From the apartment one can see the coastal mountains near Pisa and the lights of Volterra at night.
The area is steeped in history and character, all amidst typical tuscan countryside clothed in olive trees and classic cypresses. Siena is approx 45 mins away and Florence within an hours drive, and many charming small towns and villages are dotted about the countryside,offering traditional cuisine and the various locally produced wines.

Booking notes
20% payable at booking and balance plus £100 refundable damages deposit payable 8 weeks before holiday. Payment by cheque or bank transfer euros or sterling. There is a £100 damage deposit refundable on return. Check-out by 10am and check-in after 3pm. High season strictly Sat to Saturday.
Light clean included in price but does not include washing dishes/pans, removal of rubbish, re- arrangement of furniture or excess work required. Any additional cleaning required is charged out of deposit.

I just wanted to say what a fabulous time glyn and i had in tuscany. The weather was perfect and the apartment was brilliant. The track is fun! We saw so much wildlife from the apartment and the views are stunning. Saw the golden eagle which was fantastic. Luckily i remembered to take the binos so they were really useful.

We have a small property company in the UK and holiday apartments in Tuscany, together with the house in Brittany.We have several years experience of letting property both home and abroad. .My husband is an architect and he has been responsible for the total renovation of the french house and the interior design. We live in Lymington ,Hampshire.We are approaching retirement, have 2 sons and a labrador!

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We holidayed in tuscany several times and fell in love with the area between San Gimignano and Volterra. It is the classic tuscan landscape of rolling hills, vineyards and medieval towns and villages. The area , although it is a very popular tourist destination , is unspoilt, thanks to the very strict building regulations of developments. Our Podera (farmhouse) Collinella , is in a very peaceful, rural location, yet it is in easy reach of the major towns and cities of tuscany- San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena, Pisa and Florence. We particularly enjoy the fact that we can get back to the pool and peaceful gardens after busy sightseeing, and totally relax.

Unique benefits of the property
Having spent various holidays in rented accommodation with uncomfortable beds and somewhat tired looking furniture, we have made a big effort to provide comfortable good quality beds ( everyone comments on the good mattresses !)and furniture. We have also chosen and shipped from UK,light oak furniture where possible, as we found the typical italian furniture of dark wood inappropriate for holiday use and a little old fashioned. The apartments have been rebuilt using the local materials, original stone, old brick and chestnut beams, so we have retained the character but we have introduced a more up to date element with modern fittings and a very well equipped kitchen.
