Courtyard of Castle
|
|
A most enchanting place in the region of Umbria, a fairy tale landscape of ancient woods and castles. Monte Lagello was until 15 years ago an abandoned village that is now a splendidly restored Castle. This frontier castle is set atop a hill 416m above sea level and dates back to 1027. The Castle is mentioned in a Corrada. The Second Imperial Decree and linked to Pietro Vinciolla, the founder of San Pietro Monastery in Perugia. Popular tradition tells us that he was born at Monte Lagello. The castle of Monte Lagello, which dates back to the 11th Century, has been completely restored with great care, winning first prize from the London Conservation Foundation. Surrounded by woods and secular olive trees, it benefits from extensive panoramas of the surrounding area in a unique atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. There are 20 personalised apartments in total, with only a small number that can be rented for vacations.
