Further details
There are two nice trattoria's in nearby villages that are very popular with local Italians and serve typical local dishes. Both places have a nice family atmosphere and have tables outside for eating 'al fresco' during the summer months. See the menu for some examples of local specialities and prices. During the summer months guests walk down the track into the village to eat at the local trattoria.
There is wine and olive oil tasting on the next hill (a 10 minute walk up a farm track) at Fattoria di Piazzano. On the farm they make a delicious Sangiovese which comes under the name of Ventoso, (wind) because of the strong gales we get along our valley during the winter. Also their olive oil production contains the typical Tuscan varieties of olives: Moraiolo, Pendolino, Frantoio and Leccino which give the oil a very fruity and slightly peppery flavour.
There is a fridge in the breakfast room kitchen where guests can leave food and drink if they would like to prepare picnics or eat on the terrace. Empoli supermarket has a wonderful delicatessen
counter where you can buy local cheeses, hams, fresh tomatoes and fruit. There are plates, cutlery and wine glasses in the breakfast room kitchen that guests are welcome to use. There are no cooking pans but there is a microwave. The terrace has tables and chairs and a spectacular view over the countryside.

"A wonderful bed and breakfast outside Florence is I Melograni, located just southeast of Empoli. This is a convenient location for train trips to Florence and Siena. The owners are very engaging and made our stay very enjoyable. This is a beautiful family villa, within a short distance to many hilltowns."
