Casa Naomi is a farmhouse that we have restored whilst retaining its essentially Italian Marche character. With spacious accommodation that really does cater properly for up to 10 people, the property has a swimming pool and sun terrace set in 8 acres of farmland, including cherry, apple, fig, walnuts, almonds and olives, which can all be freely picked when in season. It nestles on the side of a small valley, just 1km from the historic village of Montefiore dell’Aso. The village provides all the facilities required by those on a quiet holiday. It has an excellent baker, take away pizza, restaurants, butchers and small supermarkets. You can join the locals in the cafes for a coffee of your choice, cold beer or a delicious ice cream! At the local cantina you can taste the wines on offer and fill up a 5 litre flagon with a wine for about £4-£5. You can then sit on the veranda or by the pool taking in the scenery and sipping your wine in peace. We also provide our own olive oil.

Notes on accommodation
This house really does try to cater for up to 10 people. There is enough seating and space in both the dining and sitting area and enough crockery and utensils. Outside there is provision for up to 10 to sit and eat on the verandah and space and sunloungers for up to 10 around the pool. Many villas may sleep up to 10, but few can support 10 comfortably in other areas. However the house also suits couples staying by themselves. The house has central heating for the winter months and a wood burning stove in the sitting room. The thick walls and traditional house design promote a cool interior during the summer months and cuts out the need for noisy and environmentally unfriendly air-conditioning. However we do have fans in the bedrooms for those who require it. There is a selection of books and DVDs for all ages. Please note that although there is a TV screen, there is no TV reception. We use it for DVDs, PlayStation etc. There are also some board games, jigsaws, crayons, cards etc.
Outside
The house is set in 8 acres of land with a small brook running at the bottom of the valley so there is plenty of room to explore. Besides the veranda attached to the house there is a good sized terrace around the private pool. The pool is a figure of 8 shape measuring 9.2m at its longest and 5.23 metres at its narrowest. It is solar heated, improving your swimming experience at either end of the main season. Some inflatable pool toys are left for you to use as well as other outdoor games such as 'boules'. A good supply of sunloungers, outdoor chairs and various tables is provided for you to move around and use in a way that suits your needs. There is a barbecue and a small herb garden that you can use to add flavour to your grills. We have installed a large outside sink in the kitchen yard for rinsing off sand and salt after a day at the beach. There is also a line for drying towels etc.
Coast/Beach
The coast can be seen from the villa and is only a 15 min drive away. All along the coast the sea bed shelves very gently with protection from the open sea provided by rock barriers making them ideal for children. There are various beaches running along the coast both north and south from Pedaso. Grottamare and San Benedetto are both to the south and worth visiting with palm lined beach fronts and lots of places to eat.
Golf
A golf club is only 10 minutes away. It has a small 9 hole course and a restaurant. Lessons are available.
Skiing
There are skiing opportunities both in the Sibillini Mountains and in neighbouring Abruzzo.
Travel
Car hire is essential. Ryanair fly from Stansted to Ancona which is one hour to the North along the coast toll road and Pescara which is just over the hour to the South. Ryanair also fly to Rome from various UK airports. Rome is about 3 hours, but the route is an easy drive and very scenic! In the summer of 2011 Ryanair were flying from various UK airports into Rimini which is an easy drive of 2 hours to the north. Bologna is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours away.
Distances
The local village of Montefiore is a 20 mins walk or a quick drive. The Sibillini National Park is about an hour by car and offers beautiful scenery. To the north the Frasassi Caves are about 1 1/2 hours, but well worth a day's excursion. The cave system includes the largest cave in Europe and is truly stunning. Have a look at their website! There are many old and picturesque towns and villages in the area that are worth visting such as Fermo and Ascoli Piceno.
Further details
Montefiore has all the amenities that you are likely to need, bank with ATM, baker, butcher, post office, supermarkets, cafes, pizza and small restaurants. During the summer festas abound in all the towns and villages including Montefiore - keep an eye on the posters for information. Only 15 mins away there is a go-karting track for all ages and it also provides a play area for younger children. About 45 minutes by car there is an aqua park with various waterslides which is always popular with the children. There are various activites available in the area including horseriding, visits to local cantinas where you can learn about the local grapes and the winemaking process and taste some of the wines, hang gliding, hiking etc. We can help you arrange these activities and provide someone to accompany on some of the visits. If you are interested in walking we can provide someone to show you the places to go in the Sibillini National Park or for those less energetic suggest routes to drive around the park taking in the most beautiful places to stop. Some of these visits can include a meal of local freshly prepared food. In July the town of Macerata holds an opera season in stunning surroundings which is well worth attending.
On arrival there is a welcome pack provided so that you can relax after your trip and have some refreshments before going out again to shop. The local shops are open on a Saturday evening and in the summer months the larger supermarkets open on a Sunday. As Italy is supposedly no longer providing plastic bags, we also hope to give you a free bag with your welcome pack in the 2012 season. We harvest our olives and take them to the Montefiore mill so there should be a supply of our own olive oil for you to use.

Guest comments
'The house and location was amazing! Everybody had a great time, especially the kids. The beer and wine on arrival was a lovely touch.'
'The house is fabulous if it was mine I would pack up and live there all year round. Everything in the house is of such high quality that a guest feels immediately special and if I never left the property for the duration of the holiday I would feel it was time well spent."
" Loved the peace & quiet – we were very lazy about leaving the place, only ate out a couple of evenings as it was relaxing enough to enjoy cooking (BBQ used a few times)... House was comfortable, & felt more like a home than an anonymous holiday let... It was the first holiday we’ve been on that we didn’t want to come home from'
Quite simply, one of the best holidays we've had and we do this kind of holiday quite regularly..Casa Naomi struck the perfect balance..above expectations. A wonderfully relaxing holiday where everyone was able to do the things they most enjoyed.

Owner profile
About the owner
I have lived abroad both as a child in the Far East and as a young adult in the Middle East and have travelled widely, but had never been to Italy despite my Italian ancestry on my mother's side. One hears tales of disasters that have happened to people buying property abroad and the stress of managing properties at a distance, but for me buying this house was a risk that I will never regret. It is where I escape and relax although not as often as I would like due to a child of school age still with me. I decided that we should let the house out, both so that it did not stand empty and so that it could pay its way by at least covering maintenance costs. I have never met any guests, but love the exchange of numerous emails I have with some. I also enjoy the comments we get back.
Year purchased: 2003
Why the owner chose a home in this location
The house is named after my mother. When she died she left me a small amount of money that made the dream of owning a property abroad a possibility. We did not know where we would buy, but the region of Le Marche was one of the first areas we looked in, viewing 17 properties in 3 days! Although not intending to buy immediately we saw no reason to look elsewhere when Le Marche was so beautiful and we kept talking about this particular property. We loved the scenery, the lack of tourists, the gentle lifestyle, the food, the wine, the weather, the peace and the setting of this house. On one visit while it was being renovated and when I was by myself, I just sat and cried over my luck at owning a place that was so tranquil and beautiful. The summer of 2004 was the first time we stayed in it.
Unique benefits of the property
What I like about my stays at the house is the peace. I just stop and relax. I still get great pleasure in the quality of the renovation completed by local builders in the traditional Le Marche style. How many people can boast a vaulted ceiling in their dining room and a beamed and brick ceiling in their sitting room! I enjoy making occasional trips out to the mountains and to neighbouring villages. I enjoy eating my own figs, my own almonds, my own walnuts. I enjoy using my own olive oil which I harvested myself. I enjoy going to the local cantina and filling up my 5 litre flagon with the wine of my choice for less than I would pay for a bottle of wine here. Having travelled a lot in my youth the joy for me is also things like going back into the bakery after a few months absence.
