A 19th Century Tuscan Farmhouse offering bed & breakfast, Podere Vicoferaldi, with its magnificent country views, nestles in the Chianti hills above Rufina. It also has two beautiful flats in a converted barn. It is perfectly located for those who not only wish to relax but also visit Florence and the surrounding areas. There are some marvellous restaurants in Rufina (15 minutes by car), with its easy shopping. We have 16 hectares of land with a "buttery" and private spring, a hectare of Chianti D.O.C. ‘Rufina’ vines and 640 olive trees. You may walk or ride on horseback through magnificent woods, sample excellent extra virgin olive oil and Chianti wine or perhaps pick fruit from the trees after you've breakfasted on the large sun terrace. There is a bus from Vicoferaldi to Rufina station with frequent trains to Florence (30 mins). It is less costly and tiring to catch a train to Florence, as parking is very expensive and hard to find and the station is right in the city centre.

Farmhouse B&B
|
Each beautifully renovated Tuscan style bedroom has white walls, old oak beams, terracotta floors and has its own modern bathroom including a bidet and shower unit. There are splendid views towards the wooded hills. The three bedrooms are comfortably furnished with two having double wrought iron beds, whilst the third has a pretty white bed. Our farmhouse kitchen, again in the typical Tuscan style, has an enormous fireplace and pretty handmade tiles surrounding the up-to-date stove/oven and microwave. This room is ideal for breakfast in cold weather and here guests may make themselves tea or coffee at any time.

Notes on accommodation
The farmhouse has wood central heating in the winter and there is central heating (oil) in the flats. We have created two pretty bedrooms for children or adults. There are 640 olive trees and a vineyard where you can wander, plus wonderful walks through the countryside, trout fishing in nearby lakes and horse riding, so there is plenty for children to do.
Accessibility
On the gound floor of the farmhouse we have built a very comfortable and luxurious double bedroom with a large bathroom for disabled people. This has its own approach slope via the private side garden and is designed to accommodate a wheelchair. You can sit outside and enjoy your meals whilst admiring the fantastic scenery. There is also an extremely large terrace alongside the house which allows disabled people to enjoy the sunshine.
Outside
The houses are surrounded by trees and bushes with many different roses and other plants in the various flower beds. We have a small side garden but as this is a hilly area, we have created terraces or patios with outdoor furniture and a barbecue for our guests. We are building a lovely private pool with fantastic views across the countryside and its own sun terrace. This should be ready by June 2007.
Special interest holidays
If you would like to learn Italian the owner, who is English, would be prepared to give you lessons. This is a wonderful area for bird watching or for guests who would like to watch wild animals such as pheasants, deer, porcupine and wild boar.
Travel
Florence Airport is about 40 kms and the closest to us. Car hire is recommended and there are many different companies including Avis and Hertz. The little station at Rufina is about 15 minutes from Podere Vicoferaldi and there is a local bus that stops by our farm. (Please see our web site)
Distances
We are about 15 minutes by car from Rufina village and only 30 minutes from the outskirts of Florence. You should allow at least 45 minutes to drive right into the city. There are many places of interest near here including a considerable number of villages and towns with archaeological excavations from the Etruscan and other historical periods. The Mugello area includes many old churches and castles and the Medici family's summer resort, the Castle at Poppi, Dicomano.
Further details
The local shops sell virtually anyything you could need and the restaurants serve excellent meals at reasonable prices when compared to Florence! There is a good supermarket, several banks and a Post Office. We have made available a number of books available to help you find any number of interesting places that you might like to visit.
