Sleeps 5/7. (2 Bedrooms)

Charming 500 year old townhouse on 4 levels. The property is south facing and gets the sun all year round, yet in the summer the thick walls keep it lovely and cool after a day in the sun. On the ground floor is the kitchen/dining-room with beautiful vaulted ceiling. A bedroom with 3 beds and a bathroom with shower is on the second floor. On the third floor is the master bedroom with stunning views. On the top floor is the bright, sunny living room where the views get even better! One can gaze out at night and see the village of Castelvittorio seemingly suspended in the air. The living room has a large comfortable sofa which turns into a double bed. It has a cathedral ceiling and 2 lovely big windows. The house is very quaint but has all the mod cons for your comfort. The property has rare vehicle access close to the front door for unloading and there is parking 100m away. We have central heating making the house lovely and cosy for those winter nights.

Further details
Pigna has a bank, two pizzeria, a Trattoria which sells traditional home-cooked Italian food, a Michelin star restaurant (the latter two are both mentioned in the Guardian article by Joshua Stein) and a four star spa hotel with a restaurant, swimming pool and beauty treatments. There are many more restaurants in the vicinity. It has 3 grocery shops and a chemist. There are beautiful natural swimming holes dotted around the village if you want a change from the beach. A nearby campsite has a swimming pool which can be used for a small fee - they even allow you to take your own food and drink. In the Summer the village is host to numerous dances and cultural events. The village is very child-friendly with a playground, football pitch and a tennis court. For the more active guests there are lots of designated walks around Pigna. The house is less than a minutes walk to the Piazza where in the Summer months everyone sits and enjoys a drink and watches the world go by! Italians from cities such as Milan and Venice come to Pigna to escape from the hustle and bustle and relax and enjoy the simple life. Pigna has a wealth of art, monuments and history. The church of San Michelle, which dominates the village, is home to the famous 'Polyptych' painted by Giovanni Canevesio in 1500 whilst in the chapel of St Bernado you can admire the frescoes depicting 'The Last Judgement', also by Canavesio. The house is a good base from which to visit the Grand Prix in Monaco.

Owner profile
About the owner
My Husband and I and our three teenage children live in the North-East of England where we both work in education. My husband is also a musician and I use to be a professional dancer many moons ago! We have an incredibly busy life as most people do these days and long for our holidays in Italy when we can totally unwind.
Year purchased: 2006
Why the owner chose a home in this location
I always say the house chose us as I came across it whilst looking on the internet for a holiday in France! We loved Italy but had only ever been to Lake Garda and Rome. I couldn't get the house out of my head and was very pleasantly surprised when my husband didn't think I was completely crazy when I told him about it.
Considering it was a completely impulsive decision we have never regretted it. Although we had never heard of Liguria we have completely taken it to our hearts and have made many friends. The location is fantastic and the scenery beautiful. We are in a mountain location but have the best of both worlds as the beaches of both the French and Italian Riviera's are so close. You can practise both your French and Italian!
Unique benefits of the property
In the summer when the beaches are busy we don't even have to leave Pigna. There are beautiful swimming lakes which are very refreshing and they are extremely relaxing to spend a day by. However in the winter when swimming is not possible we are so close to lots of interesting places that it is perfect for an all year round holiday. We still have so much left to see. It can be a totally relaxing holiday or an active holiday as there are great walks and tennis courts. Our guests quite often feel as though as they have been on holiday with friends or family as my friend who looks after the property takes them under her wing. If they want to be left alone that is fine too.
