Set high in the hills above Pescia, a medieval town between Lucca and Florence, Casa Libra is a renovated 18th century stone house with small annexe and pool set in 16 hectares of pine trees. The house is on four floors and, with the separate annexe, will accommodate up to 10 people comfortably, with a total of 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, large living room and kitchen/dining room which opens up onto a covered terrace with further dining facilities, and the saline swimming pool. An ideal holiday home for one or more families, groups of friends etc for relaxation, reunions, birthdays and other celebrations both winter and summer.

Changeover day
The usual changeover day is Friday. Arrival times are usually between 5pm and 7pm. Departures are usually before 9am. These can vary for short breaks and/or special requests.

Kitchen: 5 ring range cooker with large oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, electric kettle, coffee maker, dining table and chairs benches...door to terrace with outside dining.
Living Rooms: Large room with sofas and chairs, open fireplace, tv, video, football table, library, portable music system, cds, videos etc..
Additional small dining table, and door to garden.
Other: Guest house, small living room leading from covered terrace. The bedroom is galleried and there is a bathroom & small fridge.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
The first and last clean are included in the rental along with bedlinen and towels (for use in the house only). The linens are changed weekly. Additional maid service is available for a supplementary cost.

Outside
Large garden and pool area directly adjacent to the house well equipped with sunbeds, tables, chairs, mobile fridge, covered patios, barbecue, trampoline, badminton etc. There is also a small vegetable/herb garden for use of the guests.

Coast/Beach
The Tuscan coast is within an hour's drive....there are many resorts such as Viareggio and Forte di Marmi as well as less well known natural beaches.

Golf
Montecatini golf course is a good 18 hole course within half an hours drive.

Skiing
Local ski resort is Abetone usually about an hour's drive - depending on the weather.

Special interest holidays
Biking. Mountain Bike/Hybrid, scooter hire arranged.

Travel
The nearest airports are Pisa and Florence (each about 45 minutes drive). Genoa and Bologna are about 2 hours drive.
Car hire is essential although there is a bus from the end of the drive into town it does not run frequently. Railway station in Pescia has trains direct to Florence and the beaches.

Distances
The nearest village is San Quirico with basic shops (about a km). Casselvecchio another half a km further has the nearest restaurant. Pescia is about 8km with all usual facilites. Lucca is about a 20 minute drive and Florence about an hour. Montecatini is 16 km.

Further details
Local Market in Pescia is Saturday morning. Numerous music festivals during the summer in Lucca Pistoia and Torre di Largo which cover pop, blues, and opera. Specialist shopping at the outlets - Gucci, D&G, etc. Pinocchio Park - the Italian version of a theme park is within 10km. Wine tasting in Montecarlo (Italian version again). Spa and thermal baths in Montecatini.

Booking notes
A deposit of £500 is required at the time of booking the balance is payable 2 months prior to the holiday. On arrival a deposit of 200 euros for the telephone and against breakages the balance of which is returned on departure.
Extras: central heating, chef, meal on arrival. An additional deposit is required for the internet key

About the owner
We had always rented villas in this area for our family holidays when the children were small and it was my dream to one day own something myself. In 2001 I took the opportunity to realise my dream. This was not the house of my imagination but it has been so much better. Although it required restoration I set about learning the language to ensure direct communication with local builders etc. I can discuss the various merits of wood beams and stone floors but I never learned small talk!! We still have family holidays although the children are now grown and have partners of their own, they can also come with groups of friends, as can I. We have celebrated birthdays and anniversaries, stayed for weeks or only a couple of days. I hope it remains in the family for future generations.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The house had been unihabited for years when I bought it but it was within our favourite part of Tuscany close to all the tourists centres but out of the expat area. It was less than an hour from the airport and to beaches and one can even go skiing a few kilometers away. The people are friendly and appreciate any attempt at speaking their language and will also try a little english too. There are good local restaurants and bars at half the cost of those in the larger towns. Pescia is equipped with supermarkets, butchers, pasta makers and other local craftsment. There is also a good hospital (Just in case!!)

Unique benefits of the property
To us the house is our home, albeit a second one with all the comforts we expect along with a few extra luxuries like the salt water pool. The large rooms make it easy to be together while getting some space. The house is cool in summer thanks to thick walls and special roof insulation and is centrally heated in winter. The range cooker means cooking for a number of people is easy.
