Casa Pernice is a spacious, charming villa located in the heart of the beautiful Italian region of Abruzzo, an area renowned for its unspoilt beauty. Casa Pernice is situated 650m above sea level, at the edge of the Gran Sasso National Park and has fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. The hilltop towns of Penne and Montebello di Bertona as well as the Adriatic Sea are all part of the fantastic scenery. It is 40 mins to Pescara airport, 35 mins from the beaches and just a few minutes to the Gran Sasso National Park and mountains where an abundance of walking, hiking, cycling or equestrian activities can be enjoyed. The villa consists of 2 separate self-contained apartments, the 1st floor apartment has 2 bedrooms, kitchen diner/lounge with open fireplace, bathroom with shower and veranda where the breathtaking views can be absorbed over a glass of the local Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine. The ground floor apartment is used exclusively by the owners for holidays.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday but this can be flexible.
Arrival time is 16:00 with departure time 10:00 but again this may be flexible depending on other guests.

There is no air conditioning but as we're positioned 650m above sea level in the mountains during the summer the days are warm but the nights cool.

Accessibility
The apartment is on the 1st floor with its own, private stair access only.
Outside
The villa stands in its own grounds with no immediate neighbours. As well as patio table and chairs on the veranda there is the use of a barbecue and sun loungers within the garden. As well as the fantastic views the garden has the benefit of mature trees including fig, cherry and greengages.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beaches are 28km away where you'll find the soft sandy beaches and warm shallow coastline of the Adriatic. South of Pescara the coastline becomes rocky with caves and alcoves.
Skiing
Abruzzo has a number of ski resorts all within 1 - 2 hours from Casa Pernice by car. Roccaraso is the largest and most popular, this can be reached in 1.5 hours.
Villa Celiera is around a 10 minute drive where a cross-country ski circuit can be found.
Special interest holidays
With prior arrangements with the owners it may be possible to organise tailor made walking or hiking holidays.
Travel
Pescara airport is 38km away while Rome can be reached in around 2 hours by car. Car hire is essential.
Distances
The nearest villages are Vestea (2km) and Montebello di Bertona (4km) while Penne is around 15km.
Further details
Though a rural and private setting Casa Pernice is close to local restaurants and shops. Vestea has restaurants, shop and butchers while Montebello di Bertona has supermarkets, butchers, local bars and post office. The town of Penne is about a 20 minute drive where banks, larger supermarkets, tourist information and an array of other amenities can be found, including a large market on Saturday mornings.

Guest comments
We have had the pleasure to stay at Casa Pernice. It is a comfortable apartment in a very central location. The villa itself is quite secluded, with gardens and hillside walks surrounding it, but within very easy reach is Montebello di Bertona which has a supermarket, pizzerias, post office, bars and chemist. It is a short drive to both the sea, shops and airport at Pescara or up into the mountains and the National Park.
Casa Pernice is an ideal place from which to explore all that abruzzo has to offer. We stayed there whilst finding a house to buy in the area and can honestly say that we enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend it to others, Whether you are house hunting, exploring the wonders of Abruzzo or just wanting a quiet holiday, sitting on the terrace, glass of wine in hand, taking in the breathtaking view, you will not be disappointed.
