A country market every Friday morning in the town hall where you can buy all local home made produce, and the hit film about the famine 'The Hanging Gale' was filmed entirely on location on the Quayside. The river Lennon is famous for it's wildlife from seals to all kinds of birds, which use the river regularly. All beaches and golf courses are only a short 15 min-25 min drive and easily accessible from Ramelton. Donegal's main town, Letterkenny, is a 10 min drive away. Here you will find a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. A Grianan Theatre often features, acts with a local flavour during the summer.

Changeover day

Notes on accommodation
All rooms are centrally heated. Locally there is horse riding, tennis and a local park. Donegal's main town, Letterkenny, is a 10 min drive away. For the kids there is a large indoor playground (Arena 7) and a swimming pool, 5 screen cinemas.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach at Rathmullan is a 10 min drive northwards along the shores of Lough Swilly. A boat charter is available at the pier and during the summer months, a car ferry connects to Buncrana on the other side of the Lough, opening up further touring possibilities.
Golf
Golf courses at Portsalon, Letterkenny and Rosapenna. All courses are championship quality and are only a short 10 - 20 min drive from Ramelton.
Special interest holidays
Ramelton is an ideal touring base for walking holidays. The world famous Glenvieigh national park, Mt Errigal and surrounding areas are only a short drive away. From the beautiful Atlantic drive to the unspoilt beaches at Rathmullan, Portsalon, Downings to name but a few and locally Ramelton offers some of the most stunning countryside, with the local waterfalls a must see, visit. The famous Dave Gallagher founder of the world famous New Zealand all blacks rugby team was born in Ramelton. A plaque in his memory was unveiled by the New Zealand all Blacks team on a visit to their heroes birthplace on Castle street in the town. The heritage centre on the quayside devotes a special display and information on Dave Gallagher and can be viewed for free, a truly fantastic viewing for all rugby fans.

Locally, Ramelton has 2 supermarkets, bank, pubs and restaurants. Take a walk through the town and view some of Ireland's oldest buildings. Ramelton is a heritage town and has remained mostly unchanged to the present day. Ramelton was the birthplace of the rugby legend Dave Gallagher. Founder and captain of the word famous New Zealand All Blacks rugby team. In 2005, the current All Blacks team visited Ramelton and unveiled a plaque in his memory at the house in which he was born on Castle Street in the town. An Exhibition to Dave Gallagher can be viewed at the heritage centre on the Quayside.
